Introduction

The Wisconsin Lottery has unique opportunities to provide public relations and communications experience for college students! These positions are located in Madison, but statewide travel and overnight stays are required in order to attend special events throughout Wisconsin. The limited term positions will begin in May 2025 and will last roughly the duration of the summer, working 40 hours per week. Earlier part-time employment during the school year may be possible as well.

Position Summary

The Department of Revenue Lottery Division is hiring multiple positions that will work with Special Events and Player Relations to staff special events around the State of Wisconsin, provide customer service during office hours, and work on special marketing and communications related projects. Interns will represent the Lottery in a positive, professional manner and educate citizens of Wisconsin about the Lottery's games, programs, and mission to provide property tax relief. They will also set up and break down events, conduct office work, respond to questions or requests, answer calls from the Player Hotline, assist with social media by developing monthly social media giveaways, track social engagement, and assist in developing content to post on Lottery social media pages.

Weekend hours and overnight hotel stays are necessary during the summer, though it is not every weekend.

Salary Information

Pay rate is $20.65 per hour.

The duration of this Limited-Term Employment (LTE) appointment begins in mid-May and continues through August, with 40 hours/week during that time. Opportunities for additional part-time hours during the school year may also be available.

Job Details

The Department of Revenue will conduct a criminal background check, fingerprint check, and tax compliance check on all finalists.

Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States. The Department of Revenue does not sponsor work or student visas, either at time of hire or at any later time. DOR participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with Form I-9 information for all new employees to confirm authorization to work in the U.S.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will have education and/or experience in the following:
  • Public Relations or Communications
  • Event Planning, Hospitality, or Customer Service
  • Advertising or Marketing

Program requirements for students:
  • Currently in Freshman - Junior year (for 4-year college students) - Note this does not include students who have not yet started their Freshman year
  • Second year technical college students
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Wisconsin resident or attending school in Wisconsin
  • Ability to drive a state vehicle to and from special events (often at night)
    • Valid driver's license
    • At least 18 years of age
    • Minimum of two years licensed driving experience
    • No OWI/DUI violations within past year
    • Fewer than three moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in past two years
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed, with frequent overnight stays during summer months
  • Strong preference to be available for the Wisconsin State Fair, July 31 - August 10, 2025

Preferred majors or program focus: Marketing, Public Relations, Advertising, Communications, or Event Planning
