Summary

The Department of Pathology is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the roll of Medical Transcriptionist in the Anatomic Pathology Department at the University of Michigan. This position is responsible for transcribing surgical pathology reports quickly and accurately. Must have flexible work hours. Will communicate with residents, fellows, faculty and coworkers to ensure complete and accurate reports are generated quickly. Attention to detail required.

Responsibilities*

  • Transcribe surgical pathology reports quickly and accurately
  • Edit reports for organization, structure and style.
  • Operate and make minor maintenance adjustments to office equipment.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Problem solving skills at a basic level.
  • Detailed work to ensure correct match of patient identification, specimens and requisitions.
  • Work closely and smoothly as a team with the other transcriptionists, sharing and collaborating to complete the work efficiently and accurately.


Required Qualifications*

In order to be considered for this position the applicant must have met or will have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of employment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and 2-4 years of experience.
  • Experience and aptitude with a variety of computer software programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Office products and email systems.
  • Ability to work as a team with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of the principles of grammar, spelling, punctuation and composition.
  • Excellent grammar and proofreading skills.
  • Excellent typing skills; at least 80 wpm.
  • Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, gained through degree program.
  • Attention to detail.


Work Schedule

This is a full time position, actual hours per day will vary and include weekends, shifts may be day/evening/night.

Background Screening
