Job Summary
The Writing Center at the University of Michigan-Flint is looking for a specialized professional tutor for writers at the graduate and undergraduate-level, faculty, staff, and the community. You will provide writing support services to undergraduate and graduate students. You will also assist with the oversight and development of the community writing center, community networking and outreach, and assist with grant writing initiatives.
You will report to the Director of the Writing Center.
This is a part-time 50% appointment 20 hours per week position with .

A consistent hybrid work schedule (some days on campus and some days working remotely) is available for this position at this time. However, this is subject to change based upon the duties of the position and the needs of the department.

Responsibilities*
- Aid graduate students and undergraduates in developing both conceptual and practical approaches to writing, as well as study skills to increase academic development and success.
- Participate in monthly Writing Center staff meetings and other program meetings to assist and plan graduate-level writing assistance projects
- Provide tutoring sessions, including one-to-one, drop-in, group, workshop, or virtual tutoring formats, etc.
- Design and lead in-class presentations, orientations, supplemental instruction groups, review sessions, and/or study skills workshops
- Engage and encourage students to become confident, successful, and active learners in ways that respond to the diversity of students cultural backgrounds, academic needs, and learning styles
- Assist with and coach academically at-risk students with study skills, research processes, and other writing and learning strategies.
- Assist with researching and updating Writing Center graduate-level resources and materials; including online and physical materials; create informational and instructive videos
- Provide RDC (Rough Draft Cafe) Community Writing Center and Grant Writing Support:
- Assist with the development of the community writing center (RDC)
- Develop community partnerships in support of the RDC
- Assist with grant searches and grant writing projects
- Assist with training tutors to support RDC and tutoring
- Conduct community based workshops
- Maintain RDC website, marketing materials, and resources
- Maintain records for RDC, keeping all information on students confidential; adhering to FERPA; Perform record-keeping and administrative tasks as directed
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited college or university, in the field(s) of: English, composition and rhetoric, or related field
- 3 or more years graduate and undergraduate-level tutoring experience, or supplemental instruction, learning assistant, teaching assistant, academic coaching, or teaching experience within a variety of disciplines including: Nursing, Health Sciences, STEM fields, Liberal Arts Studies, Business, etc.
- 3 or more years working with students who have educational challenges/academically at risk
- Knowledge of MLA and APA citation formats; and ability to use resources when needed for other citation forms
- Available to work on-site and/or virtually 20 hours per week. Position may include evening availability as needed
- Effective written and communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications and Zoom
