Job Summary/Basic Function

WSU PREP is an academic enrichment summer school for 7-9th grade students. Program Assistants will work closely with teachers, fellow Program Assistants and students to offer a challenging and engaging program. PAs will work on campus Monday - Thursday with students, other PAs and/or teachers. Program curriculum is focused on math, science, engineering and research skills. Program Assistants duties include: Assists in planning, preparation and coordination of special WSU PREP learning activities. Performs the duties of professional teaching assistants for the WSU PREP class instructor. Ensures the safety and appropriate behavior of program participants. Attends classes and laboratories with students. Tutors students and helps with homework as needed during class times. Grades homework and special assignments, quizzes and tests. Maintains records of student performance. Provides supervision during special events. Acts as a near-peer mentor to students.

This position runs from June 3rd - July 18th, with mandatory training May 28th-31st.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent plus one years education at an accredited institution in a major or discipline related to the Summary of Duties or an associate's degree in a discipline related to the Summary of Duties is required. Concurrent enrollment credit hours count towards this requirement.

Preferred Qualifications

Skill in leading classroom discussions/activities.
Skill in effective verbal and written communication.
Ability to assess student work according to general instructional standards
Ability to supervise 25 middle school and junior high students in a virtual classroom setting.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records.
Ability to tutor Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics with students one-to-one or in small groups.
