Summary

The Federal Reserve Board (Board) provides students opportunities for career success. The Board's Internship program is designed to provide valuable work experience for undergraduate and graduate students considering careers including, but not limited to, economics, finance and accounting, information systems, and data analysis. The Board believes that by combining academic endeavors with project-related work experience, qualified and capable college students can gain the practical knowledge need in a competitive global job market. Internships are paid positions with salaries commensurate with credit hours; internships may be in-person, remote or hybrid, depending on the needs of the team. Employment in the Board's internship program is granted to U.S. citizens. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited university and returning to continue studies after the internship. Interns receive a syllabus or research project plan outlining their projects and goals for the internship. Interns are assigned a supervisor or mentor to guide them through their internship, and regular check-in meetings with their manager to manage performance expectations and assist with learning goals. Interns have access to a wide range of training programs and events for professional development purposes.

Position Requirements

The Business Operations, Planning, and Analysis (BOPA) Section provides operational, analytical, and strategic program management support to the division's budgeting, human resources, strategic planning, facilities, procurement, and other administrative functions. The BOPA intern will assist with updating the division's budget, travel, and business resources dashboards using the process outlined in the standard operating procedure (SOP). The intern will perform quality assurance reviews to ensure data accuracy and analyze data to identify trends or observations. The BOPA intern will research data visualization best practices to improve how data is presented to officers, managers, and staff. The intern will update SOPs and support the development or maintenance SharePoint Online sites and Microsoft Access databases. The intern will also support the development of presentations to facilitate cross-functional learning across the division. This is a year-round internship with an expected start date in the Summer of 2024. The intern is expected to work 40 hours/week during the summer and a maximum of 20 hours/week during the school year.

Suggested Major/Minor: Computer Science, Data Analysis, or Finance/Accounting

Required Skills and Knowledge: MS Office and Advanced Excel (e.g., VBA programming)

Preferred Skills: Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI); R, SAS, or SPSS; accounting; statistical analysis; and data interpretation

This internship offers a hybrid work environment that requires an on-site presence. The intern will need to reside in the Washington, DC area during their internship with the expectation that they will work from the office a minimum of six days per month. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS for full time telework.

US Citizenship is required for all Board internships and applicants must be current students, graduating from their program Spring 2026 or later.
