The YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking an experienced Youth Development Director-Sports & Enrichment to serve the Trotter Family YMCA.

Job Description

Develops, organizes, and implements high-quality youth and family program(s) for the Trotter Family Yfocused on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility and designed to make the YMCA the place for families in the community.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.

2. Two to three years related experience in a non-profit environment preferred.

3. Minimum age requirements of 21 years old.

4. Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.

5. Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.

6. Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) with children and adults.

7. Desire to work with children and families and the ability to relate to them in a positive, patient, sensitive, and non-judgmental manner.

8. Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of Compliance and safety training, CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.

9. Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May directly supervise part-time and full-time non-exempt employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; reviewing and approving timesheets; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; monitoring and updating all required staff certifications; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

COMPUTER LITERACY

Skills are essential in all of the Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Access. Ability to use these programs to lighten workload, develop reports, and to automate procedures is very necessary. Ability to diagnose basic PC problems and to communicate those problems is very important.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

HOURS

Flexible with scheduling and availability to work operational hours of the YMCA and sites, which may include day, evenings and weekends.

TRAVEL

Travel is primarily local between assigned centers during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Essential Functions

  • Leads with inclusion and ensures all staff members and participants feel welcome and are treated with dignity and respect. Builds a staff and volunteer team that reflects the diversity of the community.
  • Establishes value-added and fee-based programming for children and families including Family Nights, youth sports clinics, youth sports seasons, enrichment programs and others. Collaborates with OST Director on family engagement programming.
  • Creates teams from paid and financially assisted registrations. Organizes and conducts parent orientation meetings, and training and meetings for coaches. Develops and distributes team practice and game schedules.
  • Collaborates with Member Experience Directors on member engagement programming.
  • Ensures programs comply with YMCA of Greater Houston standards and operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures all direct staff have completed necessary certifications to be in compliance.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, may organize and schedule program registrations. Works closely with supervisor to plan and execute social media plan for the center.
  • Identifies opportunities in the community for the YMCA to engage and connect. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives. Monitors program registration and accounts receivable. Purchases and maintains program supplies.
  • Coordinates use of facilities for program activities, events, and outside rentals. Secures and schedules athletic fields and facilities for sports programming and sets up sports equipment for games and practices.
  • Assists in YMCA fundraising activities.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Assists with Board Committee meetings as directed by Executive Director.
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs, including administering program evaluations and compiling statistics.
  • Recruits volunteers and connects them with center activities and events. Supports, develops, and implements program specific volunteer trainings including training volunteer coaches.
  • Participates in the center’s Cause-Driven Leader on Duty (CLOD) schedule.
