The Opportunity...

DYS is seeking a Unit Administrator to oversee Unit Management functions. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with a solid background and a passion to habilitate youth.

Specifically, the Unit Administrator will:
  • Under administrative direction from the Unit Management Administrator, ensures and accepts responsibility to protect youth from harm.
  • Serves as unit manager for one or more residential living units in an assigned juvenile correctional facility in order to implement & administer Department of Youth Services (DYS) institutional policies & procedures, American Correctional Association (ACA) standards, Ohio Revised Code (ORC), Senate Bill 5 (SB5) & Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) which provides uniform direction & administration of proper custodial care, health, safety & treatment phases for adjudicated juvenile offenders & supervise assigned staff (i.e., juvenile correction officers (Youth Specialists) assigned to residential unit post).
  • Administers, plans & coordinates direct &/or indirect services of youth living units (e.g., living unit management & plan, group living, health, safety, security, risk management, Security Classification plan; ensures compliance with Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards and guidelines;behavioral health services, recreation, living unit housekeeping & hygiene, maintenance, investigations & training.
  • Completes living unit plan with a high priority on safety & security of youth & staff (Protection from Harm) (e.g., direct unit activities, provides guidance & direction to youth & staff, recognize & report unethical staff behavior, group dynamics, awareness of Security Threat Group (STG) activities/incidents, non-compliant youth, de-escalates hostile situations among youth &/or staff when needed.
  • Serves as Incident Commander during Planned Intervention incidents respond to Critical Incident Management (CIM) situations.
  • Monitors Activity Management System (AMS) incidents as it relates to the youth assigned to their unit(s).
  • Executes the delivery of unit plan & communicates unit plan to youth & staff; explain, carry out new &/or existing policy, methods &/or procedures relating to living unit duties to youth & staff; ensures compliance with Quality Assurance (QA) indicators at both the local and Central Office levels.
  • Monitors Use of Force, Seclusion including Individual Response to Acts of Violence (IRAV) Seclusion incidents; provides safe to Release Assessment
  • Checks for youth in IRAV seclusion; reviews Seclusion monitoring Logs for completion and accuracy; assists in youth residential program direction by formulates & implements youth program policies & procedures (i.e., Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Sex Offender, Substance Abuse, Crisis Intervention, Suicide Prevention & Mental Health); ensures Youth Specialists assigned to unit conducts MAV groups according to the schedule and also ensures Youth Specialists engage the youth in Structured Activities which must be led by staff in an effort to reduce youth idleness; makes recommendations to supervisor regarding living unit policy & procedures to develop methods &/or new programs to improve efficiency within the living unit to achieve institutional , PbS, Ohio Standards & ACA goals & compliance; plan, execute & document treatment plans; responds to programmatic issues, ensures unit's compliance with youth behavior management system (e.g., Strength Based Behavior System (SBBMS)); ensures that unit schedule maximizes out of room time through structured, meaningful activities; responsible for QA results and ensures corrective action following QA report conducted by Supervisor or Central Office.

Qualifications
Completion of undergraduate core program in behavioral science (e.g., psychology, sociology, social work, rehabilitation, criminal justice, juvenile justice); 18 mos. exp. in secured environment &/or treatment facility related to youth programming services &/or behaviorally challenged clientele.

- Or 42 mos. trg. or 42 mos. exp. in youth programming services in secured environment &/or treatment facility for counseling & motivating troubled youth &/or behaviorally challenged clientele.

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
