WHO YOU ARE:
The ideal candidate will have good organizational skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple priorities while meeting strict deadlines. Therefore, a written exercise may be given at interview stage.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
The Accounts Examiner I performs entry-level accounts examination work. Work involves examining and auditing operating reports and financial accounting records; and collecting taxes, fees, or penalties. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

YOU WILL BE TRUSTED TO:
-Answer a high volume of telephone calls and supports TWC staff.
-Respond to numerous email inquiries and provide follow up.
-Access multiple tax department systems using a personal computer to communicate and assist customers.
-Accurately document details of customer interactions.
-Perform moderate to complex auditing of employer accounts.
-Contact taxpayers to secure tax reports, collect taxes, fees or penalties, and enforce the Texas Unemployment Compensation Act.
-Conduct review of accounts to ensure compliance.
-Conduct investigations in order to establish tax liability.
-Review employer records to verify questionable wage data for individuals filing unemployment compensation claims.
-Assist taxpayers with filing of their tax reports.
-Conduct review of accounts in relationship to predecessors and successors.
-Prepare general correspondence in response to employer inquiries.
-Provide information on unemployment tax law regulations.
-Provide basic information to employers on how to use Tax systems for registering and reporting.
-Testify at hearings and before courts of jurisdiction.
-Participate in Appeals hearings to testify on actions taken during routine review of employer accounts.
-Provide employers with information regarding their appeal rights.
-Perform other duties as assigned.

YOU QUALIFY WITH:
-Successful completion of 30 semester hours of accredited college work, which included at least 6 semester hours of accounting, mathematics, business administration, or related courses.
-One year of full-time experience in maintaining accounting records or performing auditing work may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of education.

YOU ARE A GREAT FIT WITH:
-Experience with handling and responding to employer phone calls, emails, faxes and mail is preferred.
-Experience providing information on tax, state or federal law regulations.
-Knowledge of Texas Unemployment Compensation Act.
-Knowledge, education, or experience in accounting or auditing.
-Proficient in the use of technology, including web application software using standard browsers and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook, Teams).
-Typing at least 45 words per minute.
-Ability to stay calm when customers are stressed or upset.
-Strong verbal and written skills and to communicate effectively.
-Ability to solve problems and make decisions quickly.
-Meticulous attention to detail with an ability to produce quality work in a fast-paced environment.
-Strong prioritization, time management, and organizational skills.
-A positive attitude and professional demeanor to support colleagues in achieving division goals.
-Highly skilled in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with a variety of individuals and groups, internal and external.

-Familiar with teleconference software including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Cisco Jabber.
