Under the direction of the Automative Pool Manager II, the Automotive Equipment Operator I operates and services passenger vehicles, trucks, small-wheeled tractors, and similar motor equipment; do general labor; may instruct, lead, or supervise inmates, wards, or resident workers; and, other related work.

Possession of a driver license with a passenger endorsement valid for operation of any bus designed to c arry more than 15 passengers , any single vehicle with three or more axles, any such vehicle towing another vehicle weighing less than 6,000 pounds gross. Applicants who do not possess this license will be admitted to the examination but must secure the license prior to appointment. and one year of experience in the operation and care of automotive equipment, including light trucks.

Knowledge of: Operating, servicing, and making minor adjustments and repairs on various kinds of automotive equipment, including passenger vehicles and trucks; provisionsof the Motor Vehicle Code pertaining to the operation of vehicles on the highway.

Skill in: Operating, servicing, and making minor adjustments and repairs on various kinds of automotive equipment, including passenger vehicles and trucks.

Ability to: Transport passengers; load and unload vehicles correctly and safely; demonstrate good mechanical ability; follow oral and written directions; do simple clerical work; supervise the work of helpers.

Willingness and ability to do general manual labor, tact, and patience.

Department Information
Founded in 1875, Napa State Hospital is the only state hospital in Northern California for persons struggling with severe mental illness. Classified as a low to moderate security facility, the hospital has a bed capacity to treat up to 1,362 patients on an attractive campus with treatment units located on 138 acres.
