Job Description

Purpose of Position:

The purpose of this position is to provide support to the Operating Room, and 15South Procedure Rooms. Under direct supervision of the ADN; perform a full range of order fulfillment and receiving functions including loading & unloading, shipping, receiving, stocking, storing, packing and unpacking of supplies and/or equipment. Receive supplies and verifies count against packing slips and other accompanying documents. Run supplies between 14th floor stock area and O.R./Procedure suites.

Job Responsibilities:
- Submit surgical specialty orders.
- Check O.R. suites daily and replenish specialty inventory what is used.
- Maintain current par levels and use excel inventory catalog for guidance.
- Deliver and stock all O.R. suites and Departmental storage areas with surgical/medical supplies and equipment.
- Pick up and deliver supplies from various hospital and clinic locations internally and externally.
- Reports all discrepancies such as over-shipment, shortages, damages, incorrect catalog numbers and PO's or unusual situation to supervisory staff.
- Ensures a neat and orderly appearance of the supply carts.
- Periodically checks all storage areas (within department and O.R. suites) for expired products, performing cycle counts and physical inventory responsibilities.
- Build Case Carts; review picklist and ensure all supplies are present in cart.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by Supervisor or designee.

Minimum Qualifications

For Appointment to Level I:
1. Documented designation of Grandfathered status as a Central Service Technician.

For Appointment to Level II:
1. Hold and maintain a Certified Registered Central Service Technician credential issued by the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA); or
2. Hold and maintain a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician credential issued by the Certifying Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).

Note: Effective January 1, 2015, all newly hired incumbents to the title of Central Service Technician must hold and maintain a Certified Registered Central Service Technician credential or a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician credential and be assigned at Level II. In addition, any employee who functions as a Central Service Technician will be required to annually complete ten (10) hours of continuing education credits in order to remain qualified to perform the functions of a Central Service Technician at an NYC Health + Hospitals facility.
