Objectives of this Role:

  • Safely perform, lay out, welding and fabrication for test set up and maintenance.
  • Safely perform other duties outside of the fabrication field as assigned, with proper supervision and explanation of task from supervisors, lead personnel, and project leaders.
  • Capable of safely work along side other personnel to perform maintenance on support equipment (i.e. - Cooling Towers, Air Compressors, Boilers, Chillers, etc.).
  • Will eventually be on call on a rotating basis along with other shop personnel in support of test related projects.
  • Safely meet all deadlines on fabrication installations. Respond to mechanical malfunctions in a timely manner to keep laboratory downtime at a minimum.


Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

  • Safely weld, fabricate and repair items related to engine testing on a daily basis using any combination of welding procedures.
  • Safely install plumbing pipe of the welded or threaded type. Safely operate hand tools as well as larger shop equipment (i.e. - Drill Press, Band Saw, Metal Shear, Ironworker, etc.
  • Safely perform maintenance on support equipment as needed (i.e. - Cooling Towers, Air Compressors, Boilers, Chillers, etc.).
  • Help maintain records of the work performed and occasionally order material for for related jobs and shop stock.
  • Respond to mechanical malfunctions in a timely manner.


Requirements:

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Welding, fabricating, or construction classes are preferred.
  • 0-5 years: Must have knowledge of arc, mig, and acetylene welding procedures. Must be able to accomplish a smooth bead on all welding procedures. Must be willing to take a course to learn basic machining skills; all in support of testing.
  • Machining Skills or desire to be trained on related functions. Must have basic hand tools.
  • Must be able to work in a hazardous environment with high noise, heat, and fume levels.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Must be able to work occasional overtime on weekends. Shift work and holidays on very rare occasions when the work load demands it.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.
