Job Summary

Join UT Southwestern as an Elevator Maintenance Mechanic. This position works under general direction to provide technical skills for inspection, maintenance, and repair of elevators in on-campus and off-campus university buildings.

Minimum Experience and Education Requirements
  • Requires graduation from high school or vocational school.
  • Requires three (3) years of work experience in maintenance, inspection, and repair of elevators.
  • Prefer active holder of Certified Elevator Technician (CET) certification and/or International Union Elevator Constructors (IUEC) Mechanic Card.
  • Requires a valid Texas Driver License and must maintain active while on the job.
Job Duties
  • Perform preventative maintenance on rack and pinion industrial elevators.
  • Trouble-shoot and diagnose problems in electric brakes, motors, switches, variable frequency drives.
  • Cleans, lubricates, and adjusts relays, controls, door operators and elevator pits as needed.
  • Repair and/or replace faulty components to return elevator to fully operational status. Assist Sr. Elevator Mechanics in ensuring machinery conforms to building safety codes and equipment safety regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Work requires exercise of judgement.
  • Work requires walking, bending, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs., pulling/pushing equipment up to 50 lbs.

Working Conditions
  • Work is performed primarily in areas requiring elevators.
  • Working conditions involve some exposure to one or more disagreeable elements or hazardous equipment, such as dust, dirt, working in cramped spaces, etc.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimum require prior approval of Vice President for Human Resources Administration or his/her designee.
