Blue Ridge Community College (BRCC) is seeking an ambitious and approachable team leader to maintain the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program as the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Program Director. This is a full-time, 12-month position. The program director also serves as lead teaching faculty and is responsible for all aspects of the program, including, but not limited to:
  1. Organizing, supervising, and administering all aspects of the program
  2. Overseeing evaluation, continuous quality improvement, and growth of the program
  3. Providing academic oversight including curriculum planning and development
  4. Providing orientation, training, and supervision of clinical and capstone field internship preceptors
  5. Partnering with other program faculty and staff
  6. Monitoring program effectiveness, including proper assessment, measurement, and evaluation
  7. Establishing cooperative involvement across the local medical community
  8. Maintaining regular and consistent contact with students, faculty, and program personnel;
  9. Maintaining adequate control to ensure quality of delegated responsibilities
  10. Establishing and maintaining Committee on Accreditation for the EMS Professions (CoAEMSP) program requirements for CAAHEP accreditation
  11. Coordinating students' supervised capstone internships
  12. Preparing students to complete the national certification exam administered by the National Registry of EMTs
  13. Maintaining membership of the EMS Curriculum Advisory Committee and convening regular meetings of this body
  14. Maintaining own personal professional licensure, certification, and appropriate credentials as required by governing bodies.
Additional responsibilities include advising, supporting students, service to the college (including committee work/governance), and participation in community organizations and activities; and participation in scholarly and professional activities.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in the health care or related field to direct a Paramedic program from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Documented education or experience in instructional methodology
  • Academic training and experience equivalent to that of a paramedic
  • Experience in the delivery of prehospital emergency care
  • Knowledge about the current versions of the National EMS Scope of Practice and National EMS Standards, and about evidenced-informed clinical practice
  • Current NREMT Paramedic certification
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree
  • Degree in a health-related profession, EMS, or education
  • Community college or university teaching experience
  • Documented track record of innovation in the classroom, teaching, soft skills
  • Program management experience
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Virginia Office of EMS Education Coordinator certification
