Job Summary

Ensures engineering lab equipment relevant to each related lab is properly working prior to the beginning of the lab course. Ensures equipment is in safe working condition through inspections and proper maintenance. Makes recommendations for new equipment or upgrade. May supervise assigned staff and/or student assistants.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Ensures engineering lab equipment relevant to each related lab course is in working order prior to the beginning of the lab course
2. May supervise assigned staff and/or student assistants responsible for the completion of tasks and projects related to systematic inspection, detection, and correction of incipient failures of mechanical and electrical equipment or facilities of equipment either before they occur or before they develop into major defects
3. Inspects and adjusts mechanical, mechatronic equipment and systems
4. Performs specific preventive and general maintenance service
5. Purchases engineering lab materials, maintains accurate purchase records, vendor relations and contacts
6. Coordinates with students and faculty to ensure the fabrication of components, test specimens and parts for research, lab projects or student projects utilizing 3D Printers, CNC and highly technical machinery and industrial equipment and software
7. Trains students, technicians, and/or faculty in the use of lab and shop equipment
8. Conducts periodic inspections of all engineering systems and equipment
9. Monitors equipment operations, safety protocol and maintains equipment operating logs
10. Implements, coordinates and monitors safety measures for all engineering labs

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Associate's, technical, vocational or related degree and/or certificate from an accredited institution of higher education or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience

Required Experience
Five (5) years related work experience including previous management or supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Certification in welding, CNC machining, Tool and Die, or related fields
Other professional certification related to mechanical, and manufacturing processes from an accredited institution of higher education

Preferred Educational Qualifications
An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field

Preferred Experience
Experience in fabrication, manufacturing, or maintenance

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

ABILITIES
Willingness to learn maintenance protocol for new systems related to engineering faculty research
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of mechanical engineering lab equipment including machines such as 3D Printers, CNC machines, waterjets, welders, tensile/torsion/fatigue testing machines, pressure and vacuum gauges, and various pumps
Knowledge of electrical engineering lab equipment including equipment such as DC multi-meters, digital oscilloscopes, and PCB prototype machines

SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite)
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
