Position Summary

The Filariasis Research Reagent Resource Center (FR3), run by the Moorhead Lab, is seeking a highly motivated and team-oriented individual for the full-time position of Laboratory Manager. The overall objective of the NIAID/NIH-funded FR3 is facilitate and stimulate research in filarial diseases and has served as a unique supply source of filarial research materials, and technical information, for investigators who are not able to cyclically maintain these parasites. In addition to managing the daily operations of the FR3, the laboratory manager is to help plan, organize, and conduct filarial research focusing on host specificity and provide technical training to students, employees and volunteers in the lab. Other duties include maintaining standard operating procedures and compliance training for all laboratory members, manage supply inventory, supply ordering, and lab finances, and perform general laboratory duties and maintenance.

  • Ability to work in team setting or independently, use good judgment, multi-task and prioritize work assignments with little supervision, and trouble-shoot technical activities.
  • Ability to coordinate logistics within lab group and with research collaborators, maintain accurate documentation, pay attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats (e.g., research reports, protocols).
  • Maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Willing to work with small animals.
  • Perform basic equipment and instrumentation set up and operation.
  • Ability and motivation to learn new research technologies applied to our projects.
