Primary Function:

Oversees all purchasing, procurement and inventory management for the Surgical and Interventional Platform. Provides day to day oversight of Inventory personnel and ensures all areas are appropriately stocked. This position is responsible for providing complex inventory statistics, reports and performs financial analytics to optimize the Perioperative Inventory Process.

Job Specifics:

  • Oversees the daily functioning of the Operating Room Inventory offices at AEMC, Elkins Park and Center One. Coordinates staffing schedules to maintain adequate coverage.
  • Participates in the preparation of necessary Human Resources paperwork related to HR issues pertaining to the inventory staff (i.e. performance reviews, discipline documents etc)
  • Holds regular staff meetings with the inventory staff and Surgical Services Administration to keep them abreast of new supplies/vendors.
  • Inspects all medical/surgical supply and equipment deliveries, forwards invoices for merchandise received in good condition to accounting, returns incorrect or damaged items to vendors, and maintains a record of all returned items.
  • Acts as a liaison between Periop Services and Purchasing to coordinate supply/equipment purchases and to address issues and problems.
  • Reviews all new supply requests; initiates and prepares necessary analysis for presentation at Surgery Value Analysis (SVAC).
  • Coordinates the receipt, storage, inventory and issuance of supplies. Ensures adequate and cost-effective inventory levels are maintained. Assists in procuring supplies for "special" procedures upon request
  • Ensures all new supply items are set up in Lawson and assigned a number. Ensures items cross over to Cerner for charging.
  • Follows Materials Managements process for uploading new items into system. Ensures pricing contract in place and initiates upload template.
  • Manages supply out dates; communicates low usage items to leadership team and adjusts par levels as needed.
  • Participates with Directors in preparing justification of variances by maintaining an awareness of deviations from budget planning and/or trends.
  • Works closely with finance on managing the O.R. Charge Description Master; sets up new codes as needed for new items; reviews fees on a regular basis; problem solves patient account discrepancies.


Qualifications

Education/Training/Experience:
  • High School Diploma required, bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent related work experience.
  • Healthcare or related industry experience strongly required
  • Minimum of 3 years of inventory management or supply chain management is required
  • Previous work experience in an Operating Room Healthcare setting desired.
  • Experience in Inventory control methods preferred and basic supplies in the Operating Room
  • Electronic supply chain system experience preferred, proficient with MS Word and MS Excel required
  • Cerner Surginet experience preferred
  • Strong computer, verbal and written communication skills required
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required
  • Ability to work in a team environment is a must
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to work at any division or available to pick up supplies from another hospital
