Job Description

Shift: Tour 2: 8 A.M. - 4 P.M.

Purpose:

A member of the Revenue Cycle Team responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Inpatient Self Pay, Auth/Cert and Specialty Units. Key roles include interviewing patients and families to determine coverage eligibility, submitting applications for insurance coverage, and following-up on applications through resolution.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervises and coordinates the activities relating to establishment and maintenance of contracts with patients or parties responsible for Inpatient bills, as well as the investigation and dissemination of eligibility standards as they relate to City, State and Federal programs (Medicare/Medicaid). Manages daily In-Patient Investigations including the Financial Counseling and Insurance Verification Teams.
  • On a daily basis, monitor EPIC H2O Finance Dashboards and workqueues, review and assign to FC or IV Team members for correction/follow up to ensure timely claim submission and reimbursement. Escalate any problematic accounts to Revenue Management, EPIC Team, Revenue Cycle or HIM for follow up and resolution.
  • Acts as a liaison with Admitting, Emergency Department, Ambulatory Care, Nursing Stations, HIM, Revenue Cycle, Utilization Management, Social Services and other departments concerning preparation, delivery, control of patients' charges and credits.
  • Participate in the development, recommendation and implementation of new procedures in various areas to improve effectiveness of office routines and investigation procedures.
  • Oversees the selection and appointment of personnel, personnel changes and placement activities.
  • Participates in recommendation, preparation, administration and evaluation of training programs for the staff members under his supervision.
  • Prepares evaluations of personnel performance, assists in the development of work performance standards, productivity goals and evaluation programs.
  • Reviews time sheets for accuracy and correctness. Prepares monthly staffing schedule and assigns staff as appropriate.
  • Conducts and participates in, meetings, conferences and represents the CFO, Patient Account Director when necessary. Acts as a liaison between Patient Accounts and the MarketPlace, HRA, Insurance Companies, outside Agencies and Revenue Management to address and resolve any billing related issues.
  • In the absence of the Patient Account Director, supervise and assist the OP Managers responsible for the daily operations of the Financial Counselors (FC), Insurance Verification (IV) or Emergency Department Teams.
  • Performs all duties, as assigned by the Patient Accounts Director or Manager.
  • Perform all duties in alignment with the mission, vision, values, and behavioral expectations of NYC Health + Hospitals.


Minimum Qualifications

A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; and ,

Four (4) years of experience in accounting, finance or business administration of which two (2) years must have been in a responsible and managerial capacity in areas normally related to a hospital, medical center or health care facility; and ,

Two (2) years of experience as indicated in Item #2 in areas related to the management of patients accounts or credits; or

A satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, education and training.
