Responsibilities

Perform advanced pharmacy technician duties and participate in quality and performance improvement

initiatives.

  • Acquire clinical data to support Pharmacists.
  • Coordinate special projects.
  • Responsible for auditing, quality assurance sign off with barcode scanning, controlled substance

    oversight, and billing including, Long Term Care (LTC) billing and Medicare D claim adjudication.
  • Serve as a resource for automation technology, training & involvement with IV workflow, carousels, Pyxis, automated dispensing cabinets, troubleshooting, compounding, and robotics.
  • Provide advanced cross-training for dedicated buyers, staff, operating room satellite, and retail.
  • May serve as pharmacist extender in situations such as Caregiver Model of the Future responsibilities.
  • May monitor compliance with regulatory standards and be responsible for inventory and drug shortage management and optimization.

Requirements

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • Pharmacy Tech credentialed from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation

    obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
  • One or more of the following required:
    • Pharmacy Tech credentialed from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
    • Pharmacy Tech credentialed from the National Healthcareer Association obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.


Education:

  • High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate'

    degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

Additional Preferences

  • Previous work in retail or hospital pharmacy setting
  • Ability to use various instruments and operate equipment that may be necessary to perform job

The Patient Assistance Coordinator Pharmacy Technician assists ambulatory pharmacists in the management of chronic disease states medications. Works under pharmacist's supervision.

Activities include:

  • Completes prior authorizations by reviewing patient charts.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves billing rejections, and helps patient understand their insurance coverage.
  • Facilitates financial assistance by screening patients for eligibility and obtaining supporting documentation.
  • Provides ongoing support to referred patients for clinic services.
  • Documents patient interactions on multiple computer platforms, such as the EMR and shared Excel files.
  • Assists in the training of new employees.
  • May assist in the selection of technical staff.
  • May have the opportunity to collaborate with prescribers in outpatient clinics.
  • Position carries responsibility for other members of the healthcare team.
  • This individual will often coordinate his/her work to meet the ever changing needs of the department/hospital.
