Introduction

Winnebago Mental Health Institute (WMHI) is looking for a part-time (0.6 FTE) Security Officer. This position will be scheduled for 24 hours a week. The possible shift times are 6:30AM to 2:30PM, 2:30PM to 10:30PM, and 10:30PM to 6:30AM. The incumbent needs to be available to work all days of the week, holidays, and additional hours depending on the needs of the facility.

WMHI is a part of the Department of Health Services (DHS), Division of Care and Treatment Services (DCTS) and is a psychiatric hospital providing quality mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults.

Position Summary

As a Security Officer 4 you will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Performing security and patrol functions.
  • Performing investigative duties.
  • Enforcing laws, codes, and statutes.
  • Miscellaneous security and program tasks.

Salary Information

The starting pay is $20.38 per hour or the minimum at the time of appointment , plus excellent benefits . A 12-month probationary period is required.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 05/11 05-11.

Job Details

All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

This position requires manual labor i.e. reaching overhead and across body; being able to stand or sit for extended periods of time; ability to run, walk, kneel, climb a step ladder; and be able to carry up to 35 pounds.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB screen , which will be administered by WMHI or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy ** to drive a state vehicle.
  • Experience providing customer service.
  • Training and/or experience working with security techniques and methods.
Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:
  • Experience making rule or policy-based decisions in fast paced or high stress environments.
  • Experience working with a psychiatric patient population in a long-term care setting.

**State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy:
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Minimum of two year's driving experience.
  • Must be 18 years of age of older.

Additionally, the driving record must not reflect the following conditions:
  • Three or more moving violations and/or at fault accidents in the past two years.
  • An OWI or DUI violation within the past 12 months.
  • A suspension or revocation of the driver's license.
