Within TSG, the State & Local Tax Credits & Incentives team helps clients compete and succeed by staying up-to-date on the ever-changing, complex federal and state and local tax rules as they relate to credits and incentives. Responsibilities:
- Conduct research and writing related transferable tax credits on the state and federal level
- Participate in negotiations and transactions for transferable tax credits
- Calculate federal disaster zone, employer paid leave and related state and federal hiring based tax credits
- Participate in negotiations for state and local incentives
- Conduct research and writing for location based credits and incentives
- Complete requisite documentation for credits and incentives compliance purposes
- Participate in business development activities as needed
- Develop internal relationships within the firm and help grow external branding
- Bachelor's degree required, with an emphasis in Accounting, Business or related field preferred
- Master's degree in Taxation and/or JD with LLM in Tax preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of related tax experience required; public accounting experience preferred
- CPA, bar membership or equivalent credential preferred. If not certified, must meet educational requirements to obtain license upon hire in state of employment
- Prior experience with state or federal credits and incentives programs preferred
- Previous experience performing tax research and providing technical advice on state and local tax issues preferred
- Experience with multi-state income, sales/use, gross receipts, property, employment or other miscellaneous state and local taxes preferred
- Critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Excellent internal and external client service skills
- Strong tax research skills
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently
- Ability to handle multiple priorities, tasks and simultaneous projects
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook)
