Essential Functions
Work Environment
Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
Physical Requirements
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).
Equipment and Machines
Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).
Attendance
Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.

Professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Summer 2024 - Hypervelocity Impact Internto join the team with our Science & Exploration Division.
This is a temporary role not to exceed 13 weeks.
The Hypervelocity Impact Intern will:
- Work closely with JETS II Hypervelocity Impact Technology (HVIT) Group colleagues and NASA customers to execute Micrometeoroid/Orbital Debris (MMOD) risk analysis and hypervelocity impact testing requirements
- Perform spacecraft MMOD impact risk assessment
- Research spacecraft geometry, material, and operating parameters to support risk analysis
- Support hypervelocity impact testing activities
- Support impact simulation studies
- Support development of impact test database
- Present results to technical team in both written and verbal formats
- Support other activities under the HVIT project as needed
Requisition Qualifications:
- Pursuing a degree in Engineering or a closely related technical field from an accredited university
- Completed at least 45 credit hours.
- Minimum of 2.8 GPA.
- Familiar with basic engineering principles and material properties
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office to generate presentations and reports
- Demonstration of strong communication skills
- Must work well in a team environment
- Must be detail oriented
Requisition Preferences:
- Experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Demonstration of creativity, conception, vision, and initiative
