Insurance Specialist (Insurance Specialist)

This position works out of the Austin office and performs routine review of licensee/applicant issues through navigation of agent licensing network database (SIRCON). Work involves reviewing and investigating licensee or applicant records for accuracy and completeness and determining compliance with the Texas Insurance Code, Texas Administrative Code, and adopted rules. Primary work involves fielding calls from agents, companies, third- party licensing entities, internal agency inquiries, and the public, covering multiple licensure types or lines of authority. Other duties as assigned include dissemination of licensee information both verbally and in written form. Works under close supervision with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

This position:

• Answers incoming calls and analyzes/updates insurance licensing records within the agent licensing database (SIRCON) while processing routine agent licensing filings.

• Furnish or produce forms such as applications, appointment forms, fingerprint forms, etc. and provide information with instructions and procedures for renewals, and letters of certifications for customers.

• Consult with insurance agents and company representatives on licensure and application status, including direction and follow-up for licensee/applicant actions.

• Provides cross training & backup support in areas of expert knowledge, including observation and job shadowing for continuous staff development.

• May assist in processing and issuing filings.

• Performs other duties as assigned.



Qualifications:

This position requires:

• 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university with major coursework in insurance or business administration.

• Six months experience in technical insurance or in a field relative to assignment.

Note:

Education and experience relevant to position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.

Additional job details:

This position requires regular work attendance. The position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule. If eligible, the employee must have a secure, dedicated workspace with reliable broadband internet service. The ideal candidate must be available for weekly meetings and group collaboration via Microsoft Teams and other applications during regular business hours.

Preferences for this position include:

• Bilingual English and Spanish

• Contact center customer service experience.

This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

• A personal computer and Microsoft Word, Access and Excel.

• Agent Licensing procedures, policies and processes.

• Insurance principles and practices.

• Laws and statutes regarding consumer protections, insurance policy requirements and prohibitions, underwriting principles, and licensing requirements.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

• Communicating and working effectively with all levels of employees and the public.

• Problem solving, decision making and planning.

• Use of SharePoint, OneNote, Microsoft Office, and standard office equipment.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

• Comprehend and apply rules and statutes including the Texas Insurance Code, Texas Administrative Code and related laws.

• Draft clear and concise letters.

• Apply critical thinking to evaluate, analyze and interpret information.

• Analyze correspondence and filings to extract pertinent information.

• Represent the agency to licensees, consumers, insurance representatives, legislators, and others in a professional and courteous manner.

• Discern matters of a confidential nature.
