TRANSFER CENTER COORDINATOR

The Transfer Center Coordinator manages emergency and non-emergency patient transfers and transport requests, both by air and ground ambulances. This role requires significant interaction with hospital personnel, physicians, administrators, and transport vendors, emphasizing excellent customer service skills in a medical setting.
Key Duties:
- Call Management: Answer and manage transport requests with promptness, courtesy, and high customer service standards.
- Information Processing: Gather and process relevant information for patient transfer and transport coordination.
- Policy Compliance: Ensure adherence to established policies, including local EMS procedures and EMTALA regulations.
- Coordination: Work with physicians, case managers, and facility staff to document consults and transfer requests accurately.
- Tracking: Monitor the status and location of ambulances.
- Geographical Familiarity: Develop knowledge of the service area's geography and medical facilities.
- Task Prioritization: Manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and provide updates on projects.
Technical Proficiency:
- Equipment Operation: Utilize technical equipment such as integrated phone systems, computer-aided dispatch systems, and mapping systems.
- Communication: Maintain effective communication with transport vendors, administrative officers, hospitals, and transfer centers.
- Documentation: Ensure complete and accurate documentation of all transfer requests and relevant notes.
Quality Assurance:
- Participate in QA and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) programs.
Experience:
- 1-2 years in a healthcare environment, with a preference for customer service experience, particularly in a medical setting.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and proficiency with computer-based phone systems.
Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
Credentials/Licenses:
- Preferred candidates will have current or previous EMT certification, Medical Assistant, Case Manager experience, or equivalent education.
Technical Skills:
- Typing speed of at least 35 words per minute.
- Familiarity with basic office equipment and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Preferred experience with computer-aided dispatch systems.
Interpersonal Skills:
- Ability to maintain professionalism and efficiency in high-stress situations.
- Capacity to work independently and as part of a cohesive, fast-paced team.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, critical listening abilities, and adeptness in problem-solving and conflict resolution.
Physical Demands:
- Frequent use of hands, sitting or standing, and talking and hearing multiple conversations simultaneously.
- Occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds.
- Vision abilities include focus adjustment.
Mental Requirements:
- Strong decision-making skills and sound judgment.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret various documents and respond effectively to inquiries.
- Competence in generating reports and writing detailed correspondence.
- Basic mathematical skills, including handling fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
