Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: PhD in statistic or comparable field. Those with a masters in statistics but a PhD in other disciplines where strong quantitative skills were applied are welcome to apply.

Position Summary

This position, funded by the U.S. State Department, will participate in quantitative research processes and analysis for a project on human trafficking in multiple countries in Western and Southern Africa ending in September 2025, subject to renewal. The studies use repeated measures to establish change over time in the reduction of human trafficking. We also evaluate and monitor our interventions. We are looking for an exceptional data analyst.

The CenHTRO Assistant Research Scientist will develop and revise robust quantitative research and analysis methodologies to examine data from research findings. This position will carry out quantitative research, analysis, and report-writing on tight deadlines with a high degree of independence. This position will also work collaboratively across the project team, located in multiple countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Sierra Leone, Senegal, Malawi, and Zambia.

Additional Requirements

Additional Requirements: Familiar with grant writing processes, ability to present results in simple forms to diverse audiences, peer-reviewed publications.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification

Three or more years of experience executing quantitative research design and analysis, such as survey methods, Bayesian methods, longitudinal analysis, causal inference, machine learning, artificial intelligence. Background working with hidden or hard to reach populations, especially human trafficking populations an added advantage. Expert coding skills in R; demonstrate a good publication record.

  • Proficiency working with R and other quantitative software.
  • Excellent data analysis and data visualization abilities
  • A deep understanding of statistical and machine learning models
  • Expert knowledge of survey methods and survey sampling designs.
  • Expertise working on large-scale quantitative survey data with thousands of sample sizes
  • Record of working on quantitative research in diverse cultural contexts.
  • Ability to work on quantitative teams with multiple faculty and graduate students.
  • Ability to produce written results with high degree of independence.
  • Excellent writing skills for a variety of audiences, including academic journals and policy stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with domestic and international partners.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates professional behavior.
  • Exhibits a high level of initiative.
  • Ability to work independently and with multiple partners and stakeholders.

Research and Data Analysis
  • Conduct advanced analytics leveraging statistical models and machine learning models to deliver insights into the research findings.
  • Work with project team in efforts to develop robust quantitative research methods and data analysis techniques.
  • Work with large numbers of quantitative survey data.
  • Design, implement, and interpret the results of new survey experiments and studies.
  • Refine existing data analysis processes where needed.
  • Stay up-to-date on the relevant academic literatures in order to produce cutting-edge quantitative analyses.
