Job Summary/Basic Function

Weber State University has a commitment to ensure that all students, no matter their educational background and life experiences, can fulfill the promise of access at the heart of an open-enrollment institution. The Associate Vice President (AVP) for Student Success will play an essential leadership role in institutional strategies, programs, and initiatives to fulfill that promise. They will lead efforts to remove barriers to academic success and provide support, guidance, and resources for all students, particularly those with untapped potential. Additionally, the AVP will contribute to initiatives and programs to enhance a diversity of perspectives among students. They will oversee services that address students' basic needs and support services such as student coaching and navigation. Furthermore, the AVP will lead efforts to enhance retention, foster a sense of connection within and across all students, and close completion gaps for students.

This position will report to the Vice President for Student Access and Success.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist in developing strategic plan initiatives, in collaboration with campus partners and stakeholders, to identify, mitigate, and remove barriers that impact student success, improve student retention and completion rates and continue to close gaps.
  • Provide support, guidance, and resources that equip all students, including all students with untapped potential, with experiences and opportunities for success in each student's academic and career goals.
  • Establish and monitor goals and metrics to enhance student access, engagement, retention, and graduation.
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of innovative student success programming.
  • Facilitate staff professional development focused on data-driven and evidence-based best practices on reaching and supporting at-promise students.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Student Success Analytics in data collection, analysis, and reporting related to disaggregated student success metrics within the Student Access & Success Division. In particular, collaborate with WSU's Student Success Equity Initiative (SSEI) team to continue developing and implementing evidence-based decisions grounded in students' realities.
  • Assist in initiatives and programs to support WSU's emerging Hispanic Serving Institution (eHSI) designation
  • Collaborate with Vice Provosts, the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning Director, and Human Resources to coordinate on creating a welcoming university environment.
Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree
  • Five years of professional experience with student affairs, enrollment, educational opportunity organizations and programs, and/or other higher education-related functions.
  • Supervisory experience
Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Requirements:
  • Three years of progressive supervisory experience with full-time staff.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in leadership and transformational practices at an open enrollment or other opportunity-focused educational institution.
  • Exceptional skills in program development, implementation, and evaluation
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in data analysis and evidence-based decision-making.
  • Proficient in designing and executing targeted strategic initiatives and interventions
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with various internal and external stakeholder groups. Strong ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with individuals from and across various backgrounds and expertise including staff, students, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience using data to develop and implement student success initiatives to close completion gaps.
  • Experience in budget management and resource allocation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Terminal degree in a related field.
  • Advanced, High, or Superior Proficiency in English and Spanish
