Position Summary

This is a professional administrative position in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) Human Resources Unit, working in collaboration with the Business Services Director and unit staff to support the University's tripartite mission. Work involves a variety of administrative duties including position analysis and management, compensation and classification analysis and support, utilization of several software applications in the administration of CAES position management, consultation support for position description creation and classification, manage an effective relationship with Central University HR staff ensuring timely delivery of requests, creates timely reports regarding the status of hiring and salary requests. May participate in recruiting activities and training events as requested.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Knowledge of compensation and classification practices, employment law, University System and University policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Experience in a human resources and/or compensation and classification role.
  • Skilled in addressing and negotiating difficult human resources matters or confidential and sensitive issues and managing conflict.
  • Ability to write and develop clear and accurate processes, reports, and descriptions.
  • Ability to interpret data, accurately analyze information and arrive at appropriate conclusions.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate, perform, and complete multiple duties, high volume and assignments concurrently and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing to a wide constituent base.

Position management and administration
1. Effectively supports CAES Departments to develop position descriptions, accurate analysis of classification, and compensation as informed by UGA's salary schedules for all staff employees and/or faculty employment posting and hiring guidelines. Effectively reconciles internal equity and external competitiveness when considering salary guidelines.

2. Manages personnel hiring processes and other ongoing regular employment-related operational processes to include faculty hiring, compression, retention, and other actions.

3. Evaluates candidate and employees' work history and qualifications to determine salary placement for new hires and existing employees based on the principle of fairness and equity.

4. Uses UGA compensation policies and processes and HR technologies to process and/or approve pay change actions, salary recommendations, salary audits, and other actions.

5. Researches, analyzes, and compiles statistics on compensation and job classifications to develop competitive position descriptions and classifications that align with CAES and UGA standards.

6. Conducts job analyses to determine the classifications into which jobs are to be placed based on the similarity of the work performed, the qualifications necessary to perform the work; the difficulty of work performed, independence to action, authority, and other compensable factors.

7. Collaborates with UGA HR in advising CAES departments and units on FLSA and ACA-related issues.

8. Monitors and provides input on departmental classifications, salary actions, requests to fill positions, policy questions, and other employment-related items.

9. Works with CAES HR staff on projects and issues involving overlap of UGA financial and HR systems in partnership with the Director of Business Services and the Director of Human Resources.

10. Effectively utilizes UGA systems including UGAJobs (or current employment application system), TeamDynamix ticketing system, SmartSheet, Microsoft Office Suite, etc. to accomplish responsibilities in an organized and efficient manner.

Duties/Responsibilities

Training & Development
1. Serves as liaison between Agriculture Business Office (ABO) and department/unit administrative support for human resources tasks. Monitors and supports HR systems competencies for CAES departments and units.
2. Serve as primary training administrator and developer for CAES personnel for UGAJobs, faculty hiring, and other employment processes.
3. Advises CAES Finance & Administration Directors on staffing recommendations and/or modifications needed to achieve strategic objectives.
4. Comfortably develops and delivers formal and information training to support competencies in UGA employment systems to a varied stakeholder group, but may include unit administrative support, and faculty.

Other Directly Related Duties
1. Works with the Human Resources Director to provide strategic advice on overall CAES personnel management and direction.
2. Serves on UGA and college committees as needed.
3. Develops and maintains a positive professional relationship with internal and external stakeholders, including UGA staff and faculty, UGA Human Resources representatives, and other outside officials.
4. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Human Resources within the purpose and scope of the role.
