Summary

Responsible for the safe and effective operation of heavy equipment to dispose or process municipal solid waste while keeping site in compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality rules and regulations while keeping accidents and injuries to a minimum.

Essential Functions and Other Important Duties

Essential Functions:
  • Operates complex motorized equipment over 100,000 lbs. (trash compactors, dozer, scrapers, track loader, excavator, articulated dump truck, articulated water truck and scraper, etc.).
  • Performs less skilled tasks associated with equipment operation and operates smaller equipment as needed such as backhoe, skid steer, fork lift, HDPE poly fusion machine.
  • Inspects and checks equipment before and after use; performs minor maintenance activities and reports problems to supervisor.
  • May be required to respond to emergencies at all hours.
  • Occasionally confers with customers regarding service problems and reports information obtained to supervisor
  • Ability to get along with customers and co-workers
  • Ability to supervise personnel assigned to the Landfill
  • Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications/Acceptable Equivalency:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent with one year of experience in a field services environment
  • Three years of verifiable experience operating multiple types of heavy equipment
  • Knowledge of the field of maintenance and emergency repair of heavy equipment

  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job

Preferences:
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Knowledge of landfill operations
  • MSW "A" or "B" license
  • Class A CDL driver license
  • Prior compactor experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Working knowledge of survey work
Conditions of Employment:
  • Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
  • Must have and maintain a valid Class "C" Driver's License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)
  • Must pass a physical examination
  • Good physical health and the ability to work outdoors and be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to work overtime when requested
  • Must be able to work weekends when needed
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather
