More about the New Media Institute The New Media Institute (nmi.cool) is an interdisciplinary unit of the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, dedicated to the exploration of the creative, commercial, and critical dimensions of innovative digital media technology. Through the NMI's New Media Certificate Program, students of any major can develop new media expertise. Certificate courses are hands on and highly interactive, providing students a foundation of skills and knowledge that prepare them to respond to changes in technology throughout their careers. The NMI is located on the fourth floor of the Journalism Building with a great view of UGA's historic North Campus.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in Mass Communication, Digital Media, or other closely aligned field. Candidates with a M.A. degree must document exceptional accomplishments in the field and must be approved for a terminal degree exception before hire.

Position Summary

Responsibilities The individual hired for this position supports the New Media Institute Administrative Director in overseeing daily operations of the New Media Institute. In addition to these responsibilities, this individual will teach courses in the New Media Institute.
Willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed.

Additional Requirements

Must have an FAA administered Part 107 sUAS Pilot License.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification

Experience and Competencies Required
  • Minimum of five years teaching experience at the university-level in courses related to new media theory, trends, and technologies. Teaching and curriculum development history at both the undergraduate and graduate level is desired, as is online teaching history.
  • History teaching and constructing curriculum for the development and design of interactive digital media products. Development proficiency must include HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, JavaScript frameworks and libraries such as React, Swift, SwiftUI, PHP, CMS management such as WordPress and Drupal, Unity, Visual Studio Code, and Xcode. Design proficiency must include Adobe Xd, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Lightroom, Figma, Marvel, InVision, and Sketch. Must have a history in 3D development and design including knowledge of Unity, Unreal Engine 5, Blender, Adobe Dimension, Reality Composer, Adobe Aero, and Adobe Fuse.
  • Must have proficiency in drone operation and videography. In addition, must have proficiency in post-production and video-related software including Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere, After Effects, RunwayML, and Adobe Audition.
  • Beyond the classroom, it is preferred that candidates have a history managing student/client relationships, leading university and industry advisory boards, and producing large-scale events.
  • Extensive professional and teaching background.
  • Demonstrated excellence at helping manage a fast-paced and complex academic unit at the university level.
  • At least five years of applicable experience.
