Summary

The Arenkiel lab in the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics is hiring a Research Technician II. We are looking for an ambitious and motivated individual to continue to elucidate the basic genetic, molecular, and cellular mechanisms that guide the formation, function, and maintenance of neural circuits in the mammalian brain. The technician will be familiar with basic molecular biology techniques or will readily learn them, basic lab protocols (such as mixing solutions), basic cell culture techniques, be willing to learn gene therapy vector engineering techniques, and be interested in neuroscience. The technician may also assist with other related projects, such as those involving joint transduction by gene therapy vectors or other neuroscience circuit investigations.

Job Duties

  • Sets up and executes experiments based on established protocols and procedures.
  • Gathers data during experiments, records observations, and compiles this information into a structured format for relevant study.
  • Conducts research relevant scientific literature to gather background information, methods, and findings related to the research topic.
  • Summarizes and organizes this information into a format suitable for incorporation into research papers, grant proposals, or presentations.
  • Assesses various laboratory techniques and methods to determine their suitability for specific research objectives.
  • Documents results of experiments, including any observations, measurements, or data obtained to accurately maintain records, verifying outcomes and ensuring reproducibility.
  • Participates in weekly lab meetings.
  • Orders laboratory supplies and equipment to help manage and maintain supplies, reagents, and necessary equipment for conducting experiments.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Experience with specific techniques or methodologies relevant to the research area (e.g., cell culture, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry).
  • Experience with data analysis and statistical software (e.g., GraphPad Prism, R, SPSS).
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements governing laboratory research (e.g., Good Laboratory Practice, biosafety guidelines).
