The Athletics Department at Georgia State University is seeking to hire an Academic Advisor I. This position is responsible for understanding and interpreting relevant university, NCAA, and Sun Belt Conference policies and procedures to provide academic, graduation, and eligibility advisement for student-athletes.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

The Academic Advisor I position will oversee the academic advising efforts and graduation progression of 50 scholarship student-athletes, with oversight advising duties of sports. Within this position the Academic Advisor I will work in conjunction with campus athletic advisors to solidify verbal and written graduation plans for each student-athlete.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Meet with prospective student-athletes and parents to explain our academic structure for engaged success.
  • Work with student-athletes on scheduling classes, choosing majors and career paths, and help develop their short and long-term goals.
  • Discuss academic reports with student-athletes, coaches, athletic administrators, and parents.
  • Implement a program of academic structure for at-risk student-athletes that are accepted to our university within the special talents program. This structure will include partnerships with campus personnel, tutorial services, mentoring services, learning specialist services, etc. The end goal is to ensure that each student-athlete successfully completes a degree within a four or five-year timeline upon entering our university.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree and one year of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Degree Works, Banner, EAB Navigate, Teamworks.
