Job Summary

The IU University Library seeks an Evening Operations Supervisor who will work with other Access Services Team members to staff the main Service and Information Desk.

Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Provides learner-focused customer services such as reference support, circulation assistance, technology support, and wayfinding to University Library users.
  • Maintains the services listed above throughout evening building hours, acting as the primary custodian of the building when library administration and daytime personnel are not present.
  • Coordinates emergency and behavioral conduct response procedures.
  • Share responsibility with other Access Services Team members, providing welcoming and engaged customer service, facilitating access to research resources for library users, offering learning-based reference assistance and referrals, as well as general technology support, and participating in opening/closing procedures as necessary. Work with team members to identify departmental goals and manage or participate in projects that contribute to the strategic objectives of the department and University Library.
  • With support from the Head of Access Services, contributes to an equitable, inclusive, and anti-racist environment for library visitors and provides for the support and well-being of student employees through welcoming departmental procedures and policies.
  • Assists student employees to build their skill and understanding with the LC Classification system and the life cycle of the print material circulation process.
  • Assists with behavioral conduct, incident response, and emergency management procedures.
  • Participates in projects and routine operations that maintain optimal usability of the print collection, such as shelving, shelf-reading, shifting, and repair.
  • Oversees processing of materials for course reserves operation.
  • Assists instructors to use the course reserve systems.
  • Oversees necessary internal and external communications involving course reserves, working with the Head of Access Services to develop and implement an outreach strategy to broaden awareness among campus instructors about course reserves.
General Responsibilities
  • Handles and monitors library materials, including re-shelving, processing new material, restocking, and ensuring that all materials can be located quickly and easily. Evaluates condition of library materials and may perform repair and preservation of library materials, as needed.
  • Assists faculty, students, and other patrons by answering phones and handling library-related issues, resolving non-routine problems related to library activities.
  • Monitors library systems. Creates and updates basic records, maintains automated records, reviewing for completeness and accuracy.
  • Collects and collates data, compiles statistics, uses compiled information to prepare unit reports.
  • May assist with cataloging new items, performing audits of outstanding items, and/or inter-library loan materials processing.
  • May oversee library department desk and provide training and direction for students employees working the front desk.

EDUCATION

Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 2 years of library experience.
Preferred
  • Experience with information systems and web-based applications, such as databases, online search and discovery tools.

  • Ability to work with diverse clientele which includes university students and staff, as well as community visitors.
Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Additional Information

Eligible for both shift and premium pay.

Anticipated start date no sooner than June 2, 2024.

Advertised Salary

$36,920.00 - $37,232.00 per year based on experience.

Work Hours

Sunday - Thursday

Evenings and weekends required.
