The Wisconsin Veterans Home in King (WVHK) is recruiting for a Therapy Assistant-Objective, to provide Activities Therapy assistance as a member of care team. The Home is a 24/7/365 long-term care facility that specializes in providing comfort, support, and professional healthcare services to elderly or disabled veterans and their spouses. Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Therapist Supervisor, the Activities Therapy Assistant assists with or participates in the development and implementation of an activity therapy program for an identified case load, maintains daily attendance records, and documents information pertinent to members and their activity involvement, into the care plan. The position may direct the efforts of entry-level Therapy Assistants, volunteers and other WVHK staff assisting with activities. Therapy Assistants adhere to all Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs' (WDVA) and WVHK policies, procedures and regulations related to member care.

Salary Information

Starting wage for the Entry level is $18.42 per hour. Starting wage for the Objective level is $21.55 per hour. The position includes an attractive employee benefits package.

Therapy Assistant-Entry is in pay schedule-pay range 06-10. Therapy Assistant-Objective is in pay schedule-pay range 06-12. For current State employees, pay on appointment will be set following the Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

This position is not represented by a bargaining unit.

Job Details

This position works Monday - Friday, four 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. shifts and one 11:00 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. shift per week, with rotating weekends and holidays. The frequency of weekend rotation depends on staffing levels and facility need.

Job duties require the ability to assist patients weighing up to 350 pounds with their mobility needs, push carts weighing up to 75 pounds, and frequently move equipment weighing up to 30 pounds from carts to table.

Due to the nature of the position, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment.

Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.

Employees at this healthcare facility are required to report their COVID-19 vaccination status, whether vaccinated or not, and provide supporting documentation if vaccinated. Newly hired employees will be required to submit this information by their third day of employment.

A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Qualifications

  • Planning and organizing or conducting activities for individuals and/or groups
  • Working with elderly and/or disabled clients or with residents in a long-term care facility
Well-qualified applicants will also provide details on their experience:
  • With medical recordkeeping
Additional required and preferred qualifications that will be assessed later in the selection process are experience:
  • Working on a team; and
  • Conducting therapeutic activities for individuals and/or groups; and/or
  • Training and/or providing direction to others; and/or
  • Performing administrative functions
It is strongly preferred that applicants have a valid driver's license and the ability to meet the requirements for driving a State of Wisconsin Fleet vehicle .
