The Wisconsin Veterans Home at King (WVHK) is seeking a Buildings/Grounds Superintendent, to serve as the Maintenance Director on the Home's campus. The Home is a 24/7/365 long-term care facility that specializes in providing comfort, support, and professional healthcare services to elderly or disabled veterans and their spouses. Our facility is on the picturesque shoreline of the Chain O'Lakes, off Highway 10, between Stevens Point and Appleton.

Position Summary

Are you interested in building your career while serving Wisconsin veterans?

Under the general supervision of the Veterans Home Commandant, this position plans, coordinates and oversees buildings and grounds maintenance, repair, and improvement on the WVHK campus. This includes the supervision of skilled and semi-skilled staff in areas such as construction, electrical systems, communications and alarm systems, elevators, durable medical equipment maintenance, vehicle maintenance, and four-season grounds maintenance. The incumbent also provides maintenance support as needed across functional lines, assists with weekend and evening call-in rotations, and assists and supports campus events and improvement initiatives. Additionally, this position coordinates building maintenance projects with campus staff and building management and/or contractors, manages the work order system, and assigns work to maintenance staff to ensure timely completion of tasks and a safe environment and compliance with building and Life Safety codes.

Salary Information

Starting salary will be between $80,454 and $84,906 per year ($38.68 - $40.82 per hour) , depending on candidate qualifications, plus an attractive employee benefits package.

This position is in pay schedule-pay range 81-03. For current State employees, pay on appointment will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

The position is not represented by a bargaining unit.

Job Details

This position requires adjusting or increasing work hours as needed to meet operational needs.

Due to the nature of the positions, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment.

Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.

Employees at this healthcare facility are required to report their COVID-19 vaccination status, whether vaccinated or not, and provide supporting documentation if vaccinated. Newly hired employees will be required to submit this information by their third day of employment.

A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Qualifications

In their resume, minimally qualified applicants will describe their experience:
  • Performing facilities & grounds maintenance; and
  • Supervising and/or mentoring staff
In addition, well-qualified applicants will describe their experience:
  • Planning and performing all-seasons grounds maintenance; and/or
  • Communicating in a professional setting
Additional required and preferred qualifications that will be assessed at a later stage in the selection process are experience:
  • Interpreting and following building, Americans with Disabilities Act, and Life Safety codes; and
  • Planning and directing building projects/facilities operations; and/or
  • Performing budgetary and/or procurement functions; and/or
  • Establishing and maintaining teams; and/or
  • Interpreting and following nursing home regulations
