Thomas Jefferson University, Jefferson College of Life Sciences (JCLS), Center City campus is seeking to hire a part-time, adjunct instructor to join two co-instructors to teach the 2-credit course, GC 636 Principles of Career Management: Diverse Biomedical Careers . This is a graduate-level course focused on providing biomedical graduate students and postdoctoral fellows with an understanding of the career development process. This will enable them to make career choices based on assessment of their interests, skills, and values coupled with employment trends, information on the range of career paths and where and how to find additional resources. Students will also develop practical skills to tackle the current and future job markets.

Applicants do not need to be from the Philadelphia area because the majority of the course is taught online except for the first and last sessions which can be in a hybrid format. The course is taught on Wednesdays from 5:00PM-6:50PM during the Spring term (January 8-April 30). The course, with a maximum of 20 students, is pass/fail. The required text is Next Gen PhD A Guide to Career Paths in Science by Melanie Sinche. Material is presented through a combination of didactic lectures (live & recorded), small- and large-group discussions, online assignments, including discussion boards, student presentations, and guest speakers. All course instructors participate in the annual review and update of the course syllabus and course sessions during weekly Zoom meetings in the Fall and Spring semesters.

Qualifications

  • Master's (Required) or Doctoral (Preferred) degree in related field from an accredited college or university
  • Prior teaching experience in course work or workshops (Required)
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (Required)
  • Experience providing career guidance/counseling for graduate students, preferably MS and PhD students, and/or postdoctoral fellows (Preferred)
  • Strong Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), CliftonStrengths Assessment, or other career-related certifications (Preferred)
  • Experience preparing and administering lectures and assessments via online course management systems such as Canvas (Preferred)
