Department Summary

International Affairs is a guide and champion for campus internationalization at the University of North Texas. It is our mission to support the university's global endeavors and international initiatives. This position will be a part of the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) team. The ISSS Office at the University of North Texas provides compassionate immigration advice and support to UNT's 5,000 international students and scholars.

Position Overview

This position, in conjunction with the Director, Assistant Director, and the Senior Immigration Advisors, ensures the University's compliance with all aspects of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) as required by federal law. This position is responsible for managing the front desk and office operations. The Immigration Intake Advisor oversees the initial intake and preliminary advising of students and scholars, as well as identification of challenging visa issues to bring to the attention of the F1 or J1 advisors.

This position is the first line of customer service and advising provided to walk-ins, email inquiries, and phone calls. The intake advisor will be responsible for the training and supervision of student workers and ensuring that office operations are following standard policies and procedures to maintain efficient processing. The employee must be certified with the federal government as a Designated School Official with Homeland Security.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and three years' of highly responsible and varied office administration or business management experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Knowledge of policies, practices, procedures and terminology of assigned function.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
  • Experience with Sunapsis, PeopleSoft, and/or SEVIS Experience providing customer service to diverse groups of people.
  • Experience in supervising student assistants Experience in higher education.
  • Proficiency in a language other than English.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

Must meet federal requirements to serve as a Designated School Official (DSO).

Job Duties:
  • Customer Service Provide customer service to international students, scholars, faculty and the public. Determine the nature of the service needed and refer individuals to the appropriate advisor. Manage all incoming phone calls, faxes, and requests for assistance.
  • Front Desk Operations: Responsible for front desk operations including customer service, process improvement, campus relationship building, and general management including student assistant supervision, training, and scheduling.
  • Recordkeeping: Responsible for record keeping, immigration document processing as a Designated School Office, and office purchasing.
  • Advising and Training: Responsible for student immigration advising and training of student assistant team on immigration regulations. Grey immigration areas are pushed to an appropriate international student advisor or senior immigration advisor.
