Successful completion of a two-year traineeship leads to appointment as an Administrative Specialist 1, SG-18.

Duties Description Under the general direction of the Administrative Specialist 2, Operational Support Branch within the Office of Fire Prevention and Control, the incumbent will supervise an administrative unit that assists with coordinating training programs. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
• Manage employee training records and review and approve training applications.
• Subject matter expertise in the Learning Management System (LMS) is required for the creation, organization, and reporting of agency related courses.
• Arrange for special training in response to management, program, and staff needs.
• Review probationary reports and performance evaluations for all unit staff.
• Conduct studies to determine the efficiency and effectiveness of work methods, and procedures, and recommends revisions.
• Prepare procedures to describe, revise, and create necessary work activities.
• Perform research, compile data, and provide recommendations that address the improvement of issues within unit operations.
• Develop and implement record-keeping systems and controls.
• Collaborate with other staff to conduct special studies and prepare reports.
• Maintain knowledge of policies and procedures to provide clarification directly to individuals and programs.
• Assist with the State Fire Instructor Program.
• Attend meetings as required.
• Perform the full range of supervisory responsibilities.
• Perform other duties and special projects as required.

NOTE:
• Travel may be required (approximately 30%), including during evening and weekends, depending on assignment.
• Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver's License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required, or otherwise demonstrate the capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.

NOTE: Support of operations during times of emergency and disaster from State Emergency Operations Center (EOC), state field offices and/or local deployments may be required, which would result in a change and/or increase in working hours, locations and/or duties.
