Overview

Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to support our outpatient Cellular therapy and Bone Marrow Transplant department in Norfolk at the Brock Cancer Center. The program currently provides autologous stem cell transplant. CAR-T and bi-specific T-cell therapies to appropriate patients referred to the program.

This role is ideal for an Advanced Practitioner who is passionate about working in a collaborative and innovative program and is eager to form partnerships at all levels within the organization and community.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in program growth and coordination of care within the cellular therapy/transplant department in accordance with Foundation of the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) Standards.
  • Conduct comprehensive histories and physical examinations
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for oncology patients in an outpatient setting
  • Initiate and document appropriate interventions
  • Evaluate and record patient and family response within practice protocol
  • Prescribes drug therapies per protocol/physician consultation
  • Assess patient and family needs and provide education
  • Promotes/provides staff education
  • Serve as a liaison between inpatient, skilled nursing, home setting and research
  • Incorporates evidence-based research into clinical practice
  • Perform procedures within scope of practice; to include but not limited to bone marrow aspiration and biopsy
  • Demonstrate proficiency in technical/procedural skills
  • Provides management, referral, counseling, education to patients, families and caregivers along the continuum of cellular therapy care.

Qualifications

  • Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program for nursing education and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program or successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Post Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, hematology/oncology experience ispreferred
  • Cellular therapy/BMT experience preferred
  • Experience and knowledge in the management of the physiological and psychological effects of cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment
  • RN State License and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state, along with current state certification of Nurse Practitioner or current state license as a Physician Assistant
  • Current CPR certification required
  • Must be willing to travel to the various practice locations
