Job Description

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Office of Ambulatory Care and Population Health at NYC Health + Hospitals has a broad portfolio encompassing ambulatory care transformation, development of innovative care models, and population health analytics. The Ambulatory Data Analyst will be providing critical informatics and analytical support to strategic ambulatory initiatives. We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative team member to collaborate on impactful ways to share and communicate data to drive quality improvement and better health outcomes for our patients, and further the mission of NYC Health + Hospitals.

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Derive meaningful insights by analyzing large, complex clinical and administrative datasets, and present findings for program managers, leadership, and administrative/clinical users.
  • Interact with clinical and administrative leadership, translating ambulatory care needs into tangible, accurate and actionable data points
  • Design, run and disseminate a variety of reports and analytical tools; writing and editing SQL and SAS code to adapt to end user requests as program needs evolve
  • Act as lead for quality assurance of ambulatory care data, continually helping to ensure that the data retrieved from Epic and other sources maintain a high level of rigorous validation, collaborating with end users of workflows, the Epic team, and other data analysts
  • Continually identify opportunities for automation, improved efficiencies and streamlined processes
  • Collaborate with ambulatory care, IT, other central office departments, and local site contacts to identify and troubleshoot anomalies in the data and develop fixes or workarounds as needed.
  • Serve as the core resource for the program on all data needs, with particular emphasis on identifying and operationalizing ways to use data to drive process improvements. This will include ad-hoc analyses to explore areas of interest, and partnering with other members of the team to create tools and resources for facilities.
  • Analyses may include but are not limited to correlation, chi squared tests, student's t tests, test for trend, Wilcoxon rank-sum tests, scatter plots, line graphs, bar charts, box and whisker plots.
  • Engage in evaluation and broader operational and outcome analysis efforts, as well as developing analysis plan to conduct in-depth exploration of the cost and other implications of the program.
  • Work closely with the Population Health Data Core team, participating in broader healthcare analytics projects and sharing expertise in pursuit of the team's goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  1. A Masters degree or advanced clinical degree from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of experience gathering and documenting business, clinical, and/or functional requirements using interviews, document analysis, workshops, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, scenarios, business analysis, task and workflow analysis or related in a clinical, allied health, non-allied health, behavioral health, information technology, information services, business, analytics or related area; or, one (1) year of experience in a relevant clinical and/or healthcare administration role/function; or
  2. A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of experience as described above; or
  3. A satisfactory combination of education, training, and experience.
  4. Specialty certification(s) issued by a national commercially available program, state, professional society, academic or technical institution in an area(s) listed above, may be credited on a month-to-month basis toward the required work experience for a total of one (1) year.


Department Preferences

  • Bachelor's degree with a focus on public health, health care, pre-med, mathematics or related field; or Master's in epidemiology, biostatistics, or related field.
  • 2 - 4 years of experience
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, sound judgement and flexibility; possess effective time management and organizational skills; and be able to work under deadlines and on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience with or exposure to:
    • Data analysis in SQL, SAS, R, Python, Microsoft Excel; preferably in a healthcare context
    • Analyzing EHR-derived data is a priority
