Anesthesiology Professor - Faculty

Exempt position - Salary commensurate with training & experience

PURPOSE OF POSITION: This rank is reserved for distinguished members of the faculty in recognition of distinctive local, regional, and international national achievements. Demonstrates a commitment to research scholarship through participation in scholarly activities at an advanced level including clinical research and publication. To be a major leader in innovative basic, and/or translational, and/or clinical research; to translate fundamental basic research toward clinical utility and to train the next generation of leaders in translational research. Provide research collaborations in area of specialty within the center, regionally, nationally, and internationally. Serves in a leadership role in the service/administrative activities of the Department/Division.

Analytical Ability: Analytical ability required to evaluate data, and make judgments with regard to medical/surgical, and clinical research material.

Organization/Prioritization: Possess organization and prioritization abilities.

Methodology: Knowledge of research methodology, practice specialty, growth and development, family centered care, pathophysiology and/or pharmacology.

Professionalism: Organizational ability to work effectively within a highly matrixed and complex medical center. Possesses expert knowledge and experience of medical specialty.

Qualifications:

Required:

PhD, M.D., D.O. or equivalent degree

Completion of all required pre-employment activities (screening, background check, badging, and orientation)

Professor appointment or eligibility required

Generally requires a minimum of five years of service at the Associate Professor or equivalent rank

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Research, Teaching and/or Training: Leads a major research or teaching training program(s). Demonstrate significant on-going contributions to research and teaching including: ongoing recognition as an excellent teacher, role model and mentor internally and outside of the medical center; lead a major research, teaching, training program; outside recognition of research or teaching excellence as demonstrated by regional and national invitations; oversee and guide the development and direction of research or educational program at the division, department or system level. Recognized within the system as a role model in mentoring students and trainees. Serve as consult to other faculty. Complete evaluations for students, residents and peers. Maintain currency in field through continuing education, literature and seminars.

2. Service and/or Administration: Lead the integration of existing programs and development &growth of a major initiative of the assigned department and/or program. Lead program development for service and/or administration as evidenced by contributions including: leadership role in the development of innovative programs for research and/or patient care of educational purposes; significant leadership role in the direction of an academic division; leadership role in the medical center or university; leadership role in regional & national professional societies, program committees and governing boards. Lead the development of departmental policies, procedures & standards. Serve as a role model of effective interpersonal & intrapersonal relationships & encourage team concepts. Develop & guide the implementation of long & short term goals & objectives & ensure that they are aligned to the Division & medical center strategic objectives. Serve in a leadership role in the Institute or medical center. Participate as a member of the leadership team in developing consensus in the various programs, approaches, issues & new initiatives within the Department.

3. Scholarly Activity: Demonstrates on-going commitment to and participates in scholarly activities at an advanced level as evidenced by: publication of original research investigation, educational research, clinical observations, reviews, chapters or books; leadership role in research trials, and/or research investigations; membership on editorial boards or editorship of textbooks or journals. Applies advanced training in research methods to design and conduct clinical research on various areas of clinical specialty. Develop research programs in area of clinical specialty. Demonstrate effectiveness in securing grant funding of research initiatives and programs mentors and assist other faculty in grantsmanship. Develop and growth of new externally funded research initiatives. Develop a program that receives extramural support in the form of major grants from the National Institutes of Health or other sources.
