API BBS Mentorship Initiative Coordinator VISTA

Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Summit, Medina and Stark Counties is a growing organization. The mission of Big Brothers and Big Sisters is to support 1 to 1 mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. The vision of Big Brothers and Big Sisters is that all youth achieve their full potential. The major programs that BBBS offers are Community Based and Site Based Mentoring. We strive to provide the tools necessary for children to meet their personal goals through a wealth of personalized activities geared to help a child broaden their horizons and break the cycle of poverty. The Mentorship Initiative Coordinator VISTA will be tasked with developing the mentoring ecosystem in Summit County by building cross-sector relationships with youth serving organizations, parents, businesses, government, schools and the faith-based community for development and launch of a Collective Impact Mentorship Initiative in Summit County to ensure that all youth have access to a non-judgmental, non-parental caring adult who can provide emotional support and access to non-violent decision making-skills. The VISTA will be tasked with increasing parent knowledge of youth mentoring, and then increasing the number of mentors and mentees that are coming into the mentoring ecosystem each month. These efforts will be measured through shared measurement with cross-sector partners. The ideal candidate for this position is passionate about helping youth develop their potential, a good communicator, an independent worker and problem solver who enjoys relationship building, research, writing, public speaking, organizing, and planning. This year-long position provides the VISTA with hands-on experience supplemented by professional development training in building organizational capacity in non-profit development. Member Duties : The Mentorship Initiative Coordinator VISTA will develop a Collective Impact Mentorship Initiative ecosystem in Summit Cty for low-income youth by researching best practices in school/community-based mentoring initiatives and developing sustainable tools/systems/plans for strategic marketing/outreach, cross-sector collaboration, volunteer recruitment, and funding needed to improve outcomes for youth in academic/social/emotional/behavioral areas to alleviate effects of poverty. Member activity dates TBD by service start/end dates.
