Thrive Mahoning Valley was founded in 2017 after Hurricane Maria hit the island of Puerto Rico. To address the needs of Puerto Ricans who came to the Mahoning Valley with extreme poverty and language barriers, ThriveMV created a bilingual website to help them gain access to housing, food, health care, and basic resources for starting a new life in the Mahoning Valley. Since its founding. ThriveMV has continued to refine its role in the community. Thrive Mahoning Valley's mission is to create a more welcoming and equitable community while striving to connect new residents to economic, social, and educational opportunities. As we progress into 2025 and beyond, our new strategic plan expands on our mission by providing a greater focus on systemic policy change and poverty alleviation for immigrants, refugees, and other newcomers in the Mahoning Valley The VISTA Program Development Coordinator would allow Thrive MV to dedicate efforts intentionally on the strategies and tasks core to the organization's key programming and improve our effectiveness. The ideal candidate for this position is interested in developing resources and systems that improve efficiency, is a team player who is also an independent worker and problem solver, and likes to do research, write, organize, and plan. The VISTA will gain experience with planning and executing events, recruiting volunteers, engaging with stakeholders, marketing, managing social media, assessing programs, researching grant opportunities, and overall building capacity. The VISTA can also take pride in helping Thrive Mahoning Valley cultivate a culture of inclusion & equity, set the table for economic self-sufficiency and prosperity for new residents, and regional economic growth for the Mahoning Valley to thrive for generations to come. Member Duties : The Year 2 VISTA will continue to build capacity for Thrive MV to ensure that refugees, immigrants, international students, and other newcomers in the Mahoning Valley have equitable opportunities for economic self-sufficiency and access to health/wellness resources by implementing and refining sustainable tools/systems/ plans for volunteer recruitment, marketing/outreach, and funding for programming that alleviates poverty resulting from cultural and language barriers.
