Job Description:
This role is the primary application developer for virtual and augmented reality-related research and engagement in the field of education. This person will play a pivotal role in leading the development of AR and VR applications aimed at transforming educational experiences. The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of the latest technologies in AR and VR and have a passion for leveraging these technologies to create engaging, user-centered educational applications for diverse user groups and platforms. This position is time-limited and soft-funded.

Application Development
  • Leads the development of AR and VR applications designed to enhance educational outcomes and engagement. Collaborates closely with educators, subject matter experts, researchers, and development teams to co-create immersive and interactive learning environments. Communicates and collaborates effectively with the design team and stakeholders both internal and external. The E-Learning, Technology and Communications team that supports this position consists of database personnel, UX and UI experts, animators, videographers and instructional designers.
Collaborative Research and Design
  • Conducts thorough research on emerging trends in AR and VR technologies and assesses their potential applications in education. Designs and implements user-centered applications that
    cater to a wide range of users, including students, educators, and administrators, across various
    educational levels and disciplines. Ensures the compatibility of applications across multiple
    platforms and devices as much as possible, optimizing performance and user experience.
    Develops prototypes and conducts user testing sessions to gather feedback and make
    necessary adjustments to application designs. Understanding of accessibility standards and
    how to implement accessible design in AR and VR applications.
Data Management and User Tracking
  • Works with the College of Education, Institute for Advanced Learning Technologies and
    Lastinger Center administration, faculty and staff to develop educational content that is aligned
    with the goals of the University, the College, the Center and the degree program areas. Devises
    and evaluates methods and procedures for collecting user data for the purpose of engagement
    of impact measurement.
Support and Dissemination
  • Responds to end-user questions and needs related to the focus group testing.
  • Participates in educational forums, workshops, and conferences to stay informed and present on the latest in educational technology and to network with professionals in the field.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of E-Learning, Technology, and Communications, Assistant Director of Operations, and the Dean of the College.

Expected Salary:

Salary is competitive and commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree and three years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong programming skills in Apple's Swift language and experience with AR/VR development tools Unity or Unreal Engine.
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling, animation, and graphics optimization techniques for AR and VR.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment and engage in effective communication with non-technical stateholders.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and a user-centric approach to application development.
  • Keen interest in educational technologies and a commitment to creating impactful learning experiences through AR and VR.
