Position Summary:

Telecommuting Eligibility: Not eligible for telecommuting

Area Manager must manage Office of School Nutrition staff under the direction of Executive Director and Director of Operations. Area Manager also monitors and correct performance of all assigned OSN employees. Area manager incorporates and provides guidance of district rules for staff. Area manager travels to assigned schools to check the menu items prepared for students in the district.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum of an Associate degree from an accredited institution with a major in Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management, Foods and Nutrition, Dietetics or related fields or seven years' progressive management experience in a school food or fast-food retail setting. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • ServSafe certification required.

Essential Functions:
  • Assist with the development of nutrition education materials and programs. Coordinate a program of supervision to meet Board of Education policies and Office of School Nutrition standards as well as USDA guidelines.
  • Plan and direct the operation of a preparation kitchen and/or a designated number of satellite schools.
  • Supervise Food Service Managers. Perform task in areas of food preparation, service, merchandising/promotions, equipment maintenance, repairs, replacement, records, ordering, student accountability, personnel, scheduling, and training.
  • Communicate school and departmental objectives, policies & procedures to staff, administrators, community, parents, and students in the areas of Government and Board guideline compliance.
  • Inform Principals and Area Directors of activities, progress and problems in the preparation kitchen and its Satellites.
  • Create and maintain good employee morale and relationships between employees, school staff, student's community, and vendors.
  • Maintain services to students and delivery of a well-organized nutritional meal system.
  • Plan and conduct staff meetings with Preparation Kitchens and Staff.
  • Conduct orderly and systematic inspections of all assigned schools for the purpose of maintaining efficient operations and assuming compliance with the policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and develop HACCP Program for every school supervised.
  • Train Office of School Nutrition Food Service Workers and Food Service Managers in each assigned school.
  • Perform on-site reviews for National School Lunch NSLP, Child and Adult Care Food Program CACFP and be available to adjust work schedule in order to conduct on-site reviews.
  • Conduct on-the-job training for all Office of School Nutrition employees.
  • Submit accurate, timely records, and reports as required by the department.
  • Ensure that the National School Lunch Program is ran in full compliance to all federal and state regulations.
  • Weekly meet with the OSN compliance team ensure your assigned schools compliance to all programs.
  • Attending departmental meetings virtually and in-person.
  • Be available via district cell phone after regular work hours to answer questions related to operations.
  • Rate and confer with Office of School Nutrition employees, in accordance with the employee rating schedule.
  • Encourage positive student involvement within school.
  • Assist the Office of School Nutrition staff in the development of policies and procedures.
  • Fulfill other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director of the Office of School Nutrition.
