POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Director Department Finance for Surgery manages accounting, finance, and revenue cycle staff and provides oversight for all financial tasks and responsibilities such as, reconciliation, charge capture, adherence to policy, reporting, and budget preparation and execution. Expected to provide insight to leadership based on the interpretation of finances. Serves as department/center liaison to internal leadership and external groups.

Applicants should be able to explain complex financial concepts in a clear and concise manner. Our ideal candidate possesses proficiency in software tools such Microsoft Excel, and Access. Knowledge of Adaptive planning and Power BI is considered a plus. Previous healthcare experience is preferred.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

REQUIRED

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in finance/accounting/related field.

• Four (4) years of related work experience.

• Two (2) years of supervisory experience.

• An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

PREFERRED

• Master's degree in finance/accounting/related field with commensurate work experience.

• AMC and/or healthcare experience.

• PowerBI reporting experience.

JOB DUTIES

May perform some or all of the following:

• As part of the leadership team, makes operational decisions based on financial reporting and analysis.

• Directs all financial operations for a department including financial planning, budgeting, billing, reconciliation and reporting and accounting functions.

• Directs/reviews financial model preparation. Develops and implements regular reporting and management-level presentations to administration and officers. Coordinates analysis and distribution of revenue and expenditure reports, develops presentations for department and faculty regarding clinical earnings and distributions, and assists administration and officers in understanding the impact of financial data.

• Lead department/center financial strategy. Leads the monthly and annual accounting close process, including oversight and presentation of all financial statements and coordination with the annual financial audit.

• Directs/reviews analyses, identifies trends, advises resolution, provides justification.

• Directs, manages, and supervises department's accounting, finance, and revenue cycle staff.

• Interprets policies, procedures, and regulations concerning financial activities, including Federal and State agency guidelines to develop/implement departmental financial policies and processes.

• Designs, executes, and maintains an effective system of internal controls that provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, and financial information is reliable. Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

• Directs, reviews, and develops written justification to support budget proposals, expenditure items and budget entries.

• Serves as department/center liaison to internal leadership and to external groups.

• Directs special projects as needed.

• Performs other duties as assigned.
