The Assistant Director of Online Student Development reports to the Director of Online Life, working to develop, facilitate, and execute initiatives focused on online student development. This position supports the Director of Online Life by assisting with the creation and enactment of an online student development strategy. The Assistant Director of Online Student Development leads a team of Online Life Assistants and collaborates with other Student Life staff to facilitate online workshops, develop engaging webinars, and mentor students through a variety of digital and face-to-face avenues. This position will also assist with various other Student Life events and programming initiatives as needed. The ideal candidate for this position is relational, affable, timely, digitally literate, self-motivated, and views the development of online students not just as a role, but also a ministry.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Online Student Development

a. Strategize with and coordinate an online student development plan in accordance with the Director of Online Life's vision.

b. Participate in mentorship and relational contexts, such as the Alumni Community, with online students for the purpose of resourcing and development.

c. Plan, facilitate, and execute online student development initiatives such as webinars, events, and meetups.

2. Leadership

a. Supervise and oversee online student book studies and the moderation of online student communities.

b. Supervise team of student workers as they work to directly engage and facilitate conversation amongst online student communities.

3. Workshop & Webinar Development

a. Facilitate, develop, and host webinars and workshop series for online students.

b. Collaborate with the Student Life Creative team to produce a variety of content oriented towards the development of online students across a wide variety of demographics.

4. Research

a. Supplement online student development strategies with cutting-edge and current

research on online student communities and student development.

b. Develop and provide the Director of Online Life with regular reports of programming, events, and strategies taken from other online communities.

c. Collect data and develop relevant reports for the Director of Online Life.

5. Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position supervises a small team of student workers.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS

Minimum Qualifications

1. Education

a. Bachelor's degree completed.

2. Experience

a. 2-3 years of social media management, online community engagement, student development, or higher education administration experience.

Preferred Qualifications

a. Completed master's degree.

2. Experience

a. 4-5 years of social media management, online community engagement, student development, or higher education administration experience.

  • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business.
  • Regularly lift 20 or fewer pounds.


WORKING CONDITIONS

Work Environment

The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is in an office setting. However, work frequently occurs in a variety of other settings; including, but not limited to, residence halls, warehouses, and outdoor activities.

Driving Requirements

Use of one's personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) may be required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position. Proof of a valid Virginia driver's license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
