Assistant Professor, Pediatric Intensive Care, Department of Pediatrics
Charlottesville, Virginia
Employer: Virginia Jobs
Industry: Pediatrics-Pediatric Critical Care
Salary: Competitive
Job type: Full-Time
The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Critical Care, at the University of Virginia is seeking a candidate to join our Pediatric Critical Care team. Candidates must be board certified/eligible in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and have significant comfort with the provision of pediatric moderate and deep sedation as well as advanced congenital cardiac care. An active area of program building is the care of patients with complex medical technology dependence, and applicants with a specific interest are encouraged to apply.
The General PICU service provides all levels of quaternary medical care supporting the entire Children's Hospital including oncological/BMT, Level 1 trauma, neurosurgical, otolaryngologic, orthopedic, and liver and kidney transplant services, among others. The UVA Children's Heart Center maintains a busy and high-quality surgical service caring for all levels of neonatal, pediatric, and adult congenital heart disease, recently ranking #20 nationally in USNWR. We have a very active heart failure and transplant program providing ECMO and VAD support.
Our current 11 intensivists provide 24/7 in-house care with the support of ten APP's, PICU and Cardiology fellows, and resident trainees from pediatrics, anesthesiology, and EM. Three separate daytime teams cover Pediatric CICU, general med/surg PICU, and Pediatric Sedation. Overnight coverage extends to both units. Five of our attendings have advanced training (4 with triple board certification) in Pediatric Cardiology or Congenital Cardiac Critical Care medicine and generally run the daytime CICU service. The other six faculty members provide service for the General Medical/Surgical PICU patients and the weekday Pediatric Sedation Service, but all have extensive experience with cardiac surgery care. Patients are managed along with consulting surgical teams in a congenial and collaborative working environment.
We invite talented applicants at the Assistant Professor level to join our growing and dynamic team as we care for this challenging, yet satisfying, group of children from across the Commonwealth of Virginia. Ample opportunity exists for academic achievement and professional growth using the resources found across the entire Medical Center and adjacent University community. The University of Virginia Children's Hospital is in Charlottesville, a college town setting with natural beauty and significant historical relevance in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Charlottesville is a wonderful place to live with an extraordinary quality of life, often ranked among the best places to live in the United States. It is perfectly situated for an outdoor lifestyle with Shenandoah National Park close by and the Atlantic Coast an easy drive, or the major culture center that is the Nation's Capitol.
