Minimum Qualifications

PhD degree in biology, chemistry or biomedical engineering.

Position Summary

The Assistant Research Scientist will design and conduct research focused on the discovery and synthesis of nanoparticles for veterinary use, for brain neurochemistry phenotyping, and for delivering proteins with therapeutic potential for neurodegenerative diseases across the blood-brain barrier; training of graduate and undergraduate students; lab management (organization, ordering, etc.); and presentation of findings in scientific meetings; serving as Instructor on Record for a 3-credit online graduate course and assisting with the administration of a online graduate program.

Additional Requirements

Ability to design and oversee conducting of developmental toxicity studies in laboratory rodent models.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification

Minimum of 5 years of postdoctoral experience in a related field, ability to synthesize and characterize nanoparticles; working knowledge of GLP and GMP. Background in neurochemistry, and biomarker analysis.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

High familiarity with operations of a biomedical-related research laboratory, Imaging including MRI, IVIS, Electron microscopy. Computer skills: use of spreadsheets, statistical software, image analysis programs, sequence analysis programs.

Duties/Responsibilities

Design and conduct laboratory rodent studies in prenatal programming with endocrine disrupting chemicals. Characterize nanoparticles in vitro and in vivo. Synthesize polymer-based nanomaterials for use in MRI-based brain neurochemistry imaging, develop conjugated nanoparticles for biomodal imaging, develop hybrid nanoparticles capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier to reach and inactivate gonadotropin-secretion regulatory regions in the brain.
