Position description
The Slamon laboratory in the Division of Hematology-Oncology, Department of Medicine is recruiting for an Assistant Specialist to work at the Translational Oncology Research Laboratory site in Santa Monica.
The successful candidate will work closely with the UCLA faculty and research staff and serve as a principal engineer for the operation and expansion of our high-throughput antibody screening platform. The workstation consists of a centralized robotic scheduler (Retisoft, Genera) and several integrated instruments (e.g., Tecan Fluent). A foundational understanding of automation software is essential. Some working experience with SQL database management and network engineering is also desirable.
Desirable laboratory bench skills include hands-on experience with tissue culture and antibody screening using advanced ELISA techniques and flowcytometic (FACS) methods. He/she/they will also serve as a technical consultant for other high-throughput small molecule screening operations and contribute to laboratory management tasks, including ordering laboratory consumables and training students or staff.
Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities, and do not have formal teaching responsibilities. Appointees will also be expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period.
Required skills: Appointees should possess a master's degree (or equivalent degree) or five years of experience demonstrating expertise in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science or a related discipline. Demonstrated expertise in biochemistry, cell culture, flowcytometry, and laboratory automation is desirable.
Preferred skills: Excellent interpersonal skills and experience with database management.
