About the Department:
Intercollegiate Athletics serves 500 student-athletes in 22 NCAA Division I sports. We are a proud member of the Atlantic 10 Conference with 17 Conference Championships, NCAA Championships in Women's Soccer and Men's Indoor Track, an NCAA Final Four appearance with Men's Basketball, and over 30 individual National Champions. We are student-focused, education-centered, and committed to providing transformational experiences for our student-athletes and staff. Our three priorities are to educate, compete, and engage.
Educate: Prioritize academic achievement and recruit student-athletes who can be successful academically, strengthen ICA's commitment to diversity and inclusion, and provide consistent education for coaches and sport administrators.
Compete: Position teams to consistently compete for conference success and recruit student-athletes who possess the ability to excel athletically from a conference and national perspective.
Engage: Prioritize the experience and personal well-being of student-athletes, develop and renovate athletics facilities, generate resources necessary to support the student-athlete experience, and foster and inspire partnerships within the department, University, and the community.
About the Position:
The Assistant Women's Soccer Coach provides coaching to the player(s) and team on/off the field through training sessions, video, individual development plans, games. This position is expected to utilize sound teaching techniques in the conduct of game preparation and practice sessions.
This position has responsibility for team operations and administration (including academics, travel, lodging, housing, nutrition, meals, training equipment), opponent scouting (thorough reports and delivery through presentation and video), and recruiting (talent identification, scouting responsibilities, and official visits).
The Assistant Women's Soccer Coach assists the Head Coach in the evaluation and development of the student-athletes, and in making strategic decisions in program development.

The Assistant Women's Soccer Coach assists the Head Coach in the evaluation and development of the student-athletes, and in making strategic decisions in program development.
Responsibilities:
- Teaching and Coaching:
- Utilizes sound teaching techniques in the conduct of game preparation and practice sessions;
- Assists in making strategic decisions in contest situations;
- Effectively prepares and organizes pre-season, and post-season conditioning programs and practice sessions;
- Oversees the strength and conditioning development of the athletes;
- Assists the Head Coach in the elevation of the student-athlete;
- Remains aware and maintains a safe and healthy environment for the student-athletes;
- Department, University, Conference, and NCAA Compliance:
- Abides by and promotes the aims, goals, and objectives established by the Athletic Director and Head Coach;
- Abides by and promotes the policies, guidelines, rules, regulations, and criteria established by the Athletic Director and Head Coach for the student-athlete;
- Knows, understands, and assures that the student-athletes abide by all the University, Atlantic 10, and National Collegiate Athletic (NCAA) Rules and Regulations;
- Knows, understands, and abides by all University, A10, and NCAA Rules and Regulations;
- Remains aware and abides by the rules of confidentiality (Buckley Amendment);
- Understands and abides by proper procedures of due process in dealing with the student-athlete and staff;
- Follows the administrative procedures established by the University and written up in the Department Staff Handbook;
- Assists the Head Coach in developing and implementing the overall recruiting strategy to effectively recruit the best student-athlete within the admissions, financial and regulatory constraints established by the University, A10, and NCAA;
- Acts as Team Liaison to the Equipment office staff to order, monitor and control all team equipment, the Business Office and Coaches Support Assistant on program operations, logistics, planning, and team travel, and Academic Services (study hall and tutoring);
- Fundraising: Participates in fundraising efforts and special events; and
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President/Director of Intercollegiate Athletics or Sport Administrator.
- Master's degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Advanced degree or training and work experience at a level that equates to an advanced degree;
- Competitive collegiate soccer experience;
- Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to adhere NCAA, Conference, and Commonwealth rules and regulations;
- Ability to work with sensitive private student-athlete information;
- CPR/AED Certification required, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire; and
- Valid driver's license: must currently possess an appropriate, active, valid motor vehicle operator's license that meets all of GMU's requirements for operating state vehicles and equipment under Mason's Vehicle Use Policy 1411 https://universitypolicy.gmu.edu/policies/vehicle-use/. The Office of Risk Management reserves the right to review the driver's licenses and Motor Vehicle Reports (MVRs) of all candidates selected with employment contingent upon a favorable review.
- Demonstrated experience coaching or assisting at the high school and/or college level (typically two or more years);
- Ability to work with diverse populations;
- Demonstrated ability to fundraise; and
- Demonstrated ability to recruit on- and off- campus soccer players.
