Job Description

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Associate Director and Supervising Psychologist, Adult CPEP / Director is a leadership role for the Adult CPEP that will provide clinical functions, including direct patient care and clinical supervision (70% time), and administrative management functions (30%) in support of the Division Director and overall operations. The role conducts direct patient evaluations and provides supervision in the areas of diagnosis and treatment. Coordinates patient care with other clinical disciplines and administration. Coordinates training practica and coordinates case conferences.
As Associate Director's responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Providing direct patient care to Adult CPEP patients.
  • Supervising clinical operations in CPEP's Interim Crisis Clinic and directly supervising psychologists working in all elements of CPEP services.
  • Providing administrative management of CPEP providers, e.g. Attending MDs, Resident MDs, Psychologists and Nurse Practitioners (n = 80), including managing shift schedules, chart reviews, billing audits, or other similar matters.
  • Assessing environment of care in Psychiatric Emergency Service and Interim Crisis Clinic and taking appropriate follow up action to ensure it is free of hazards and to reduce risk of injury to all patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Effectively utilizing the electronic as well as the paper medical record.
  • Developing and implementing action plans to create a culture of responsibility and respect to co-workers, unit staff and institution, and to ensure a professional environment among all CPEP disciplines.
  • Developing and implementing action plans to retain staff and faculty with focus on staff support, morale and burnout, increased team camaraderie and cohesiveness, and follow up on faculty/staff injury and safety concerns.
  • Identifying and managing interpersonal conflict among MD/PhD/NP clinicians and across entire multidisciplinary team.
  • Assisting in the recruitment and orientation of new clinical staff/faculty.
  • With CPEP Director's oversight and medical expertise, providing clinical evaluation and investigation of
  • MD/NP/PhD-related patient complaints and Justice Center inquiries or allegations.
  • Overseeing weekly CPEP case conference, including coordination of MD/PhD discussants and identification of appropriate patients. Also provides formal and informal instruction to psychologists and psychologists-intraining and other disciplines on diagnostic and therapeutic standards and techniques.
  • Collaborating with managers and staff in Nursing, Social Work and Administration divisions to design and implement performance improvement projects.
  • Reviewing adverse events and participating in investigations, preparations and presentations of Special Reviews.
  • Reviewing, updating and revising CPEP policy/procedure.
  • Reviewing/revising guidelines for standards of care and ensuring that CPEP practice is in compliance with all OMH, Joint Commission and CMS regulations.
  • Working with CPEP administrators to ensure MD/PhD/NP completion of all required NYU and Bellevue trainings (e.g. re-credentialing, annual mandates, accrual of CMEs, etc.).
  • Educating and training faculty about Quadramed updates and transition to EPIC.
  • Notifying faculty about all policy/procedure/documentation/workflow updates.
  • Overseeing CPEP administrative meetings, and attending interdepartmental and inter-hospital meetings in Director's place when required. Attending meetings/workgroups with City and State agencies on Director's behalf when required.
  • Working with CPEP Associate Medical Director to manage clinical oversight of personnel when Director is away.
  • Attending to time-sensitive CPEP administrative responsibilities in Director's place when required, and overseeing CPEP administrative staff (n = 11) on Director's behalf as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
1. Valid New York State Psychologist license
2. A doctoral degree in Psychology, from an AP A-accredited doctoral program in psychology
3. Completion of an AP A-accredited pre-doctoral internship in psychology
4. Five additional years of satisfactory full-time clinical administrative experience
